Sexual Assault Services of Northwest New Mexico is Hiring a Victim Advocate Near Farmington, NM

Position Overview: As a Victim Advocate, you will play a crucial role in providing compassionate support and advocacy for primary and secondary victims of sexual abuse. Working under the guidance of the Director of Programs, you will manage a caseload, offer crisis intervention, court accompaniment, relocation assistance, safety planning, and referrals to partner organizations. Your dedication will help survivors stabilize their lives and navigate the challenges they face post-victimization.

Key Responsibilities:

Hotline Calls:

  • Respond to crisis calls on the 24-hour rape crisis hotline.
  • Provide information, emotional support, and referrals to victims and secondary victims.
  • Ensure timely responses to calls, maintaining professionalism and empathy at all times.

Walk-In and SANE Advocacy:

  • Offer crisis intervention for survivors of sexual assault, both in-person and during SANE exams.
  • Accompany victims to medical, legal, and law enforcement appointments.
  • Provide ongoing case management and follow-up support to clients.
  • Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in all interactions with survivors and their families.

Community Outreach:

  • Attend community meetings and events to raise awareness and provide information about our services.
  • Deliver presentations and training sessions to community members and organizations.
  • Participate in campaigns, prevention events, and awareness activities, including Sexual Assault Awareness Month initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have a AA degree or higher in social work, sociology, human services, or related field preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in crisis intervention, community education, and working with law enforcement and social service agencies.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to provide on-call advocacy services 24/7.
  • Valid, unrestricted motor vehicle license.

Hiring Requirements:

  • Completion of the 40-hour Foundations in Advocacy training.
  • Successful completion of a CYFD background check.
  • Ability to rotate 24-hour on-call shifts with other staff advocates.
