Seward & Kissel LLP is Hiring a Maritime Practice Group Administrator Near New York, NY

The Maritime Practice Group Administrator is a trusted advisor to the Maritime Practice Group and Group Leader. The ultimate goal of the position is to provide operational and functional oversight of the practice group in the areas of finance, business and client development, talent management, and execution of strategic growth.

Responsibilities

Management

  • Work closely with practice leadership to formulate and execute a strategic business plan. Continuously monitor the performance of the plan and propose proactive measures to achieve their objectives.
  • Ensure effective communication among attorneys within group, spanning practice development, business development, talent development, and financial performance.
  • Maintain practice group calendars and ensure deadlines are met.

Finance

  • Develop and manage annual revenue and expense budgets in close coordination with Partners and the firm’s finance department. 
  •  Liaise with accounting/finance department on billing and outstanding accounts receivable.
  •  Tracks and monitors time entry.

Talent

  • Helps practice group leadership manage staffing by monitoring upcoming billable and nonbillable needs, identifying appropriate availability.
  • Maintain oversight of current lawyer workloads.
  • Review notices of CLE and other programs and seminars specific to the practice and suggest attendance, as needed.
  • Work with Partners and Professional Development team to meet the education needs of the practice group.
  • Manage and coordinate associate evaluations and reviews, that measure the specific skills of personnel in the practice group.
  • Work with Partners and Legal Recruiting team to define and meet hiring needs of the practice group and to coordinate lateral hiring, onboarding, and integration.

Client and Business Development

  •  Maintain and assist with practice group budget management.
  • Works with Marketing Department for proper utilization of marketing functions, collateral updates and improvements.
  • Provide feedback and information on rankings, ratings and client diligence requests.
  • Coordinate client meetings, prepare materials and facilitate communication between clients and attorneys.
  • Assist in the preparation of client presentations and proposals.
  • Collaborate with Marketing team on business development initiatives, including client seminars and entertainment.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5-7 years of law firm experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and build credibility with lawyers
  • Possesses superior organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently and be proactive
  •  Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
