Job Title: Registered Nurse - Corrections

Contract: 8-weeks

Location: Youngstown, OH

Salary: $1800/week

Shift Pattern: 36hours/week (3x12s), 7p - 7a

Required: RN License, BLS, 1 year RN experience

Duties/Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive health assessments of incarcerated individuals upon intake and throughout their incarceration. Evaluate medical histories, assess current health status, and identify healthcare needs to develop individualized care plans.
• Administer prescribed medications in accordance with physician orders and established protocols. Monitor medication effectiveness, manage medication refills, and educate patients on medication usage, potential side effects, and adherence.
• Provide ongoing care and management for chronic health conditions prevalent in the correctional population, such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and infectious diseases. Collaborate with healthcare team members to optimize disease management and promote patient well-being.
• Respond promptly to medical emergencies within the correctional facility, including traumatic injuries, acute illnesses, and psychiatric crises. Assess the situation, initiate appropriate interventions, and coordinate with emergency medical services as needed to ensure timely and effective care.
• Conduct health education sessions and wellness programs to promote preventive healthcare practices and enhance patient understanding of health-related issues. Address topics such as nutrition, exercise, substance abuse prevention, and sexually transmitted infection prevention.
• Advocate for the healthcare needs and rights of incarcerated individuals, ensuring access to timely and appropriate medical care. Collaborate with correctional staff and outside healthcare providers to address medical concerns and facilitate continuity of care during transitions, such as intake, transfer, and release.
• Maintain accurate and thorough medical records of patient assessments, treatments, and interventions. Adhere to documentation standards and regulatory requirements, ensuring confidentiality and privacy of patient information. Prepare reports and participate in case conferences as needed to support patient care and facility operations.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including physicians, nurse practitioners, mental health professionals, and correctional staff, to coordinate comprehensive care plans and address complex healthcare needs. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case reviews to optimize patient outcomes and ensure compliance with standards of care.

Required

• Active, unrestricted RN license in the state of practice.
• Previous experience in correctional healthcare or a related setting preferred.
• Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to make sound clinical judgments in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in medication administration, including knowledge of pharmacology and medication management principles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
• Commitment to patient-centered care, ethical practice, and professional integrity.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and situations within the correctional environment.
• Basic life support (BLS) certification required; advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification may be preferred.
