Description

Mission: Seton Home works to break the cycle of abuse and poverty by providing a caring home, education, and support services necessary to transform the lives of pregnant and parenting teen mothers and their children.
Workdays: Tuesday - Saturday
Works Hours: 10:30 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.
Location: 1115 Mission Rd., San Antonio, TX, 78210
Summary:

Responsible for the overall wellbeing, care and supervision of adolescent mothers’ ages 12- 18. Young adults 18-21 years old and their children ages 0-5 years old. The Specialist works providing services to clients in a residential setting and applies trauma informed practices to provide a safe and caring environment. The Parenting Specialist is responsible for learning life skills and parenting curriculum and teach it to clients in their daily home like environment. This role is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out responsibilities assigned as long as such actions do not deviate from established organizational policies and are consistent with program guidelines and sound professional judgment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • *Plan, lead and implement parenting, educational, independent living skills, and recreational activities during your shift as assigned.
  • *Build a positive relationship with each program participant and foster positive connections with mothers and their children.
  • *Effectively manage the group of children assigned to you. Maintain and enforce agency policies and procedures to maintain youth rights and appropriate discipline.
  • *Actively engage with participants with the goal of fostering positive and age-appropriate development of each participant.
  • Counsel youth through personal problems using trust-based problem-solving techniques and maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Provide input into development of treatment plans as appropriate during IDT meetings and clinical rounds.
  • Learn and practice DFPS Client Youth Rights, Minimum Standards, contractor and funder requirements.
  • Assume responsibility for transportation when needed to airport, court, activities, hospital emergencies, and other appointments as needed and when transporter is not available.
  • As a Seton Home employee, attendance and successful completion of a 10-day New Employee Orientation is mandated for the position. The inability to meet this requirement will conclude employment with the Agency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Residential Supervisor:

  • Serve as the first Point of Contact while on shift; this includes but is not limited to emergency situations, reporting Serious Incidents and communicating with on-call supervisors/therapists.
  • Provide direction and guidance to Teen Parent Specialist as deemed necessary.
  • Coach Teen Parent Specialist and assist in further developing their skills with accordance to the Seton Home and State Procedures and Policies
  • Ensure daily documentation is completed accurately and prior to staff leaving the shift.
  • Responsible for the completion of shift transition logs each workday.
  • Monitor team and individual performance and relay pertinent information to Shift Supervisor; provide recommendations during Supportive Supervisions and Evaluations
  • Helps foster a positive team environment amongst staff with clear communication and solution-based approaches.
  • Assist with completing the shadowing and on-boarding processes for newly hired employees.
  • Provide assistance to the Residential Supervisor with the hiring processes such as recruiting and interviewing.
  • Provide staff with verbal and written feedback as it relates to their job performance – communicate staff performance with Shift Supervisor and Program Director regularly.
  • Shift Specific Expectation & Responsibilities:

Afternoon/Evening Routine

  • Plan, lead and implement parenting, educational, independent living skills, and recreational activities during your shift as assigned.
  • Ensure participants are where they need to be, and they are on time.
  • Complete safety checks with the goal to maintain a safe physical environment for all participants of the program.
  • Engage clients in participation of programmatic services and assist with babysitting during classes, groups or crisis situations.
  • Engage mothers in implementing a baby bedtime routine.
  • Turn in daily progress notes and TPCN logs at the end of shift.
  • Complete transition report with oncoming shift

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience
    • Associate’s Degree Preferred in a Human Services Field, Education, and Psychology etc. Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
    • Minimum of 6-month experience in human services field or Child Welfare Field working with children and adolescents
  • License and Credentials
    • Reliable transportation
    • Valid driver license
    • Valid vehicle insurance

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with computer software
  • A solid grasp of Trauma Informed Care and Pregnant and Parenting Populations
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team.
  • Must have good written and verbal skills.
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Travel Requirements:

Travel requirements for the position includes 30% local and no overnight travel.
