Position Overview:

S:US is seeking a Desk Security person for their homeless prevention program in Manhattan.

This position is located at 2276 Third Avenue New York, NY 10035

SCOPE OF ROLE :

The Desk Security Officer will work under the supervision of program leadership to ensure that onsite visitors, applicants and people served are greeted and signed in. They work to ensure the safety and well-being of clients, team members, and visitors. Desk Security will facilitate engagement with clients, visitors, and team members by forging meaningful connections, as well as undertake outreach and engagement activities designed to promote community awareness of S:US services. This staff member will support the S:US Homebase Program by also promoting Continuous Quality Improvement that incorporates a systematic approach that manages change in a way that clarifies priorities and reduces concerns experienced by others. Respect and integrity are instilled into each interaction. They are expected to document all interactions according to program expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Engagement:

  • Greet people in a positive, customer-service oriented manner in the office waiting area and surrounding space while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Verify all visitors credentials (vendors, non-Homebase team members, contractors, etc.) and ensure they sign in/out of the Log Book, are escorted throughout the office space (once confirmed by Management), and at time of exit from premises
  • Control flow of office access by enforcing posted memos set forth by Management pertaining to walk-ins and scheduled appointments
  • Monitor all entrances, exits, and surrounding areas to deter loitering, unauthorized access by periodically monitoring CCTV system
  • Frequently patrol the entire office space, hallways, and staircases and document findings in Log Book
  • Document interactions with applicants/participants in CARES, logs, and other means as directed by management.
  • Respond to emergencies and contact NYPD, FDNY, and/or EMT, if needed, while also seeking advisement from Management and other Program personnel on site
  • Participate in staff development by attending trainings assigned
  • Attend Team Meetings, Case Conferences, as well as Coaching and Mentoring sessions
  • Provide assistance to Administrative Assistants by making copies of client documents and if asked, scanning completed prescreens to Intake Case Managers
  • Check Program voicemails and emails throughout shift and respond in a timely mannerDevelop authentic, meaningful interactions with clients and visitors through empathy, listening and collaboration with team members

Advocacy and Support:

  • Inquire with clients about their reason for visit and direct them accordingly
  • Work actively within the team itself to help build an environment that operates from a belief in the human potential to overcome stressful situations and an understanding of human diversity and behavior as a natural reaction to it
  • Accompany clients and visitors through public or shared areas of site (not limited to hallways, meeting rooms)
Qualifications:
  • GED or High School Diploma
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for 8 hours per day
  • Excellent judgment/ability to understand boundaries when working with clients is required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to empathize with, relate to, and effectively work with participants, vendors, and team members
  • Familiar in the utilization of Microsoft Word and the willingness to learn other applications for efficient recordkeeping, and documentation
  • Capable of working under direct supervision and also independently, at times
  • Understanding of the community in which the team is based and serves with an awareness of available community resources
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking, problem-solving and de-escalation skills to assist with creating and maintaining an environment that promotes safety and well-being for everyone
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
  • 8-hour Pre-Assignment Training and 16-hour On the Job Training Certificates are a plus
