Serco’s Training and Experience Program (STEP) is designed to provide undergraduate university and college students paid accredited internship opportunities to gain meaningful, hands-on work experience in a professional environment.

Our 2024 internship opportunities are available throughout the U.S. and Canada, beginning on May 28th and concluding on August 9th, with 1 week off July 1st-5th. You will work with your manager to identify the best working schedule for you, working no more than an average of 36 hours a week with the added perk of half-days on Fridays.

In addition to gaining hands-on experience, you will attend training sessions taught by skilled leaders in our company to better prepare you for a full-time career.

Serco offers an exciting internship opportunity on our Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) Strategy Management team. We map long-range change affecting Navy Medicine and facilitate strategic initiatives. You will join an effort that employs strategic foresight research and analysis to identify forces of change on the military health system. The Strategy Analyst Intern will work in our Crystal City, VA office on a hybrid schedule. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is intellectually curious and innovative.

BUMED prepares Department of the Navy medical personnel, sailors, and marines to meet future operational military healthcare needs. Our customer in the Office of Strategy Management conducts strategic foresight research and analysis and strategic planning to better prepare Navy Medicine for the future. At Serco, we have evolved a best-in-government forecasting and strategic planning capability that is growing in importance in government and the commercial sector. We provide BUMED with an understanding of the way that the operating environment of the future can change. As the Strategy Analyst Intern, you will contribute to research and analysis of developments in areas of health, technology, military operations, or other relevant fields to inform Navy Medicine strategic planning.

Over the course of the summer, you will network and interface with critical client leaders to include the Director of the BUMED Office of Strategy Management and members of our Serco Strategy Management team. You will report to our project manager, Jerry Stefanko, whose LinkedIn profile is here.Jerry has over 30 years of experience in military and health system engineering and project management. You will interact and coordinate with ten to twenty extraordinarily talented and experienced team members and government personnel, from whom you will gain insight about a variety of organizational business and government issues.

In this role, you will:

• Conduct research on developments in areas relevant to military medicine strategic planning
• Use analysis software to capture, catalogue, and assess
• informative sources that lead to publication of a monthly research report
• Analyze the forces of change in your research areas and participate in internal team meetings and exercises to review and assess trends and their impact on Navy Medicine
• Incorporate your analysis into an assessment report
• Participate in customer meetings to discuss analysis results
• Offer suggestions to improve processes and incorporate technology to streamline team functions
• Capture decisions and action items from meetings, and participate in setting up follow-on tasks.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
• Preferred fields of study: Management Science, Data Science, Health Sciences, Military Science, Business
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Works effectively both individually and in team settings
• Proficient in MS Office applications

This role is also suited for the following skills:

• Aptitude for software tools, such as analytical programs
• Should enjoy reading and writing; enjoys a variety of sources that speak to world affairs, healthcare, and technology
• Self-motivated with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.
• Eligibility to apply for a Secret clearance
