Position Description

Serco supports the US Navy as a prime for providing engineering and production support on the FFG-62 (Guided Missile Frigate) program. As a Lead Production Engineer, you will a critical part of a skilled group of engineers, analysts, and field technicians with a mission to oversee the production and delivery of the Navy’s FFG’s while working to improve the efficiency and quality of the shipyard’s processes to ensure ship reliability.

You will serve as a linchpin in monitoring production efforts across the ship class, highlighting production issues that could impact cost, schedule, and quality of the ships. You will work closely with PMS 515 Production Officer/PAPM, FFG PMR, and shipyard construction manager to address concerns and lead innovative solutions. Our Navy customer relies heavily on each individual’s skillset to provide support to the program office team as well as Supship and the shipbuilder’s team, all sharing a common goal to successfully build, test and deliver multiple FFGs to the next generation of sailors.

In this role, you will:

• Monitor overall progress of each ship and the class. Work with the stakeholders to establish and track production metrics, incentives, and define key milestone criteria such as Launch, Aegis Light Off, Generator Light Off, Main Engine Light Off, and Readiness for Trials.
• Establish, review and update processes to include but not limited to quality, care, and protection, change incorporation verification, and compartment completion.
• Develop Production Progressing tool for FFG 62 class in coordination with SSBA and PMS 515 personnel. Review accuracy against shipbuilder reported progress. Identify and resolve any issues driving greater than 3% discrepancy with shipbuilder.
• Coordinate with EVM Analyst to investigate any potential issues in production highlighted by EVM metrics.
• Participate in scheduled meetings with Supship, shipyard personnel and subcontractors, providing inputs when needed.
• Support task lead in monitoring team performance to meet contract requirements. Identify areas where adjustments in resources may be needed.
• Develop and submit monthly reports of all completed activities to the task lead.
• Provide support to the local Supship team as needed and also respond to emergent requests for information or data from PMS 515P (FFG Production Team, Washington Navy Yard).

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering; or substitute ten years of ship production support and oversight experience.
• Experience working in a shipyard production environment and in a supervisory role.
• Must be able to obtain an active DoD Secret clearance post-employment.
• Eight to ten years of US Navy shipbuilding experience.
• Experience in quality control, surveying, and accuracy control in a shipbuilding environment.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
• Excellent oral and technical report writing skills.
• Have the ability to travel at least 25% of the time.

Additional desired experience and skills:

• Experience in establishing and monitoring production metrics.
• Experience in interpreting IMS and EVM reporting.
• Experience with SUPSHIP operations.
