Sequoia Mental Health Services is Hiring a Certified Peer Support Specialist * NEW SALARY! Near Beaverton, OR

Position Overview:

Peer Support Specialists work as a member of a multi disciplinary team providing intensive case management and integrated dual diagnosis treatment. The team works to address all treatment needs, including crisis management, substance abuse treatment, medication management, physical health treatment, mental health treatment, accessing benefits and entitlements, accessing appropriate and affordable housing.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Participate in Outreach activities necessary to offer services and engage participation in a non-coercive manner. Escort clients to meetings and appointments as necessary.
  • Exemplify recovery principles in order to show by example that recovery is possible and attainable. Share their own recovery story as appropriate, and walk the road of recovery alongside the client.
  • Work to increase level of cultural sensitivity, awareness and competency regarding Person Centered and Peer Delivered Services.
  • Educate and advocate for the values and principles of the Recovery Model.
  • Work to build community supports and integration for all participants to increase independence.
  • Work closely with family members and other supports to build/re-build relationships with participants
  • Work with Clinical Supervisor to develop and support new peer programming.
  • Collect information regarding clients' history through a combination of interviewing, records review, and consultation, after obtaining written consent.
  • Participate in the development of the treatment plan with client and treatment team.
  • Participate in clinical staff meetings and case conferences with team members in order to utilize interdisciplinary expertise and facilitate individual treatment plans for clients.
  • Collaborate with Residential facilities, Adult Foster homes or other housing providers to provide necessary treatment services and coordinate residential and non-residential treatment and service planning.
  • Assist team members to support service participants during periods of crisis.
  • Participate in admission and discharge planning for any client needing hospitalization or subacute level of care. Client contact must be made within one working day of admission.
  • Maintain client records as required by program standards and funding requirements including documentation of clinical interactions within the agency documentation timelines.
  • Monitor and assure that the health and safety needs of clients are met.
  • Coordinate services with all members of client’s natural and formal support network.
  • Receive regular weekly supervision from the clinical supervisor, seeking additional supervision whenever necessary. Minimum requirement two hours of documented supervision per month.
  • Participate in rotation of a 24/7 support phone available for clients to use for afterhours support.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • QMHA (Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Sciences field or a combination of at least three year's work, education, training or experience in chemical dependency or mental health treatment)
  • Certification in Peer Support (Peer Support Specialist) and listed on the Traditional Health Worker Registry
  • IPS Certification highly desirable

Additional Requirements:

  • Candidates must be a self-identified person currently or formerly receiving mental health services; or a self-identified person in recovery from a substance use disorder, who meets the abstinence requirements for recovery staff in alcohol and other drug treatment programs understanding of the needs of persons with mental health & substance abuse issues.
  • Ability to pass a criminal history background check
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Reliable Transportation

Physical Requirements:

  • Walk, bend, kneel, and reach
  • Stand and/or sit for long periods of time
