Special Education Social Worker, The Learning Center, TLC, Girard KS

Beginning 24-25 School Year

The School Social Worker helps special education students attain a more independent level of personal and social adjustment. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the School Social Worker must work closely with the staff and administration of the Interlocal and school district. The School Social Worker provides services that enable the special education student to benefit from specifically designed instruction.

Responsible to: Director, Assistant Director, and Principal according to negotiated agreement

Salary: According to Negotiated Agreement and Experience ($46,940 starting salary)

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Master’s degree in Social Work. (MSV)
  • Kansas Licensed Master Social Work (LMSW) license through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory board.
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
  • Desire to continue career improvement.
  • Demonstrate or develop basic computer literacy skills. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of interlocal prescribed computer-based reporting systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Help special education students attain a more independent level of personal and social adjustment.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.
  • Ensure that all activities conform to Interlocal guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school districts, interlocal, and community.
  • Work effectively with community organizations.
  • Support the value of education.
  • Respond to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Support the value of an education.
  • Support the mission and goals of the interlocal.
  • Submit logs documenting contact time with SE students related third party billing for Medicaid services.
  • Complete required reports in a timely manner as required by law.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Requires extensive travel and the ability to drive.
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments.

General Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
  • Frequently participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, review, and re-evaluation processes.
  • Consult with SE students regarding their learning and behavior problems and counsel them as necessary in order to benefit from specially designed instruction.
  • Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies and services.
  • Participate in the development of student IEPs. Complete required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to required program guidelines as defined by the Federal and State law and regulation.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and others concerning the needs of students and special services that are available.
  • Make classroom presentations to promote social and emotional well-being: social skills, tolerating differences, impact on kids with depression, anxiety, and anger.
  • Assist with the integration of special education students into the regular classroom
  • Consult, coordinate with agencies serving SE students and their families.
  • Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
  • Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques.
  • Supervise and train staff members as assigned.
  • Ensure that interlocal policies are observed during all activities
  • Obtain advance approval for all special activities and expenditures
  • Adhere to all interlocal health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Blood-borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Respond in a positive manner to changes in assigned duties.
  • Crisis Counseling
  • Develop knowledge and skill in diagnosis/treatment, FBA, understanding of clinical diagnoses DSM IVR; work with more emotionally disturbed students.
  • Obtain advanced approval for all special activities or expenditures.
