Segerstrom Center for the Arts is Hiring a Part-Time Overnight Security Officer Near Costa Mesa, CA

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Part-Time Overnight Security Officer is an integral part of the Security Team, which is responsible for ensuring the entire campus is always secure. This is accomplished through fixed positions as well as various patrol routes. While the responsibilities will change depending on the assignment, safety and security are at the forefront of a Security Officer’s decisions and actions.

Security Officers are focused on the safety of our patrons, performers, guests, and staff. Security Officers observe, react, and respond to occurrences throughout the Center’s property, including visual inspections of buildings, bags, or packages. The Security Officer uses operational security judgment throughout the course of the shift. Security Officers respond to various incidents and emergencies and are the Center’s representatives during these events. This is a non-exempt, hourly position.

JOB DUTIES*:

  • Perform security patrols of designated areas via fixed positions and various foot patrol routes.
  • Watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards.
  • Communicate by use of 2-way radios, telephones, and computers.
  • Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking or carrying forbidden articles.
  • Permit authorized persons to enter property, monitor entrances, and exits.
  • Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities.
  • Aid patrons, performers, guests, and staff in a courteous and professional manner, providing exceptional customer service.
  • Prolonged standing to perform and maintain crowd control during peak operational hours in a variety of settings and during different weather conditions.
  • Strong written, verbal (including radio skills and etiquette), and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and work cohesively as a team.
  • Work with multiple departments and various levels of leadership.
  • Problem-solve, remain composed and effective in stressful situations.

*- Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor in support of departmental goals.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to evaluate situations and use good judgment in resolving issues.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Exercise alertness and be able to act quickly, calmly and with good judgment in an emergency.
  • Must have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work the 10pm to 6am shift.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Computer proficiency within a Windows environment.
  • Candidate must successfully complete a background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS*:

  • Required to walk and stand throughout a standard and sometimes prolonged shift, including walking across the campus and accessing the buildings which will also include going up and down several flights of stairs.
  • Required to sit at a posted position periodically during office work.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity while using hands including heavy use of keyboard.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in both verbal communications orally, by use of 2-way radios and telephones, as well as in written communications.
  • Must also be able to reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch.
  • May be required to periodically lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Must have good vision to include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus while maneuvering through both light and dark spaces and in stairways.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, the desk area well-lit and room temperature controlled while in the office.
  • When in event spaces, the noise levels can be very loud, work areas subject to low and high intensity lighting levels, and varying degrees of temperature.
