The Problems You'll Solve
As a Senior Engineer on the team, you will be building and shaping our liquidity product solutions. In particular, you'll be one of the key contributors in building new features, improving operational efficiency and minimizing technical debt while capitalizing on standardized solutions. Working in close collaboration with both business and other engineering teams within Carta, we navigate a unique and challenging product space that intersects with multiple domains including Cap Table Management, Taxes, and Money Movements. This will be a unique opportunity to have an impact not just within your product space, but also across teams within Carta.
The Team You'll Work With
This role is on the Liquidity team. We are changing the way the world experiences private market liquidity. Our board member, Marc Andreessen, summed our mission nicely in one of his blog posts.
We work on the Tender Offer product, which streamlines the process for companies looking to repurchase shares from existing shareholders, providing them with a structured mechanism to generate liquidity. This solution caters to shareholders seeking to sell their shares while the company remains private, while also offering prospective buyers the opportunity to invest in the company's equity.
We are a small team of 12 individuals. The scope and impact of each individual are immense. We are biased toward action and believe in the mantra of build -> measure -> learn. On the team, you'll collaborate closely with our product manager and designer to understand the motivation (why) behind what a customer wants, defining the scope of work (what), and build a solution (how) with your engineering peers to deliver the desired customer value.
Diversity is our strength; our team members are from many different nationalities and technical backgrounds, and we value the unique characteristics that make us who we are. To uphold our values, we believe that trust and humility are of the utmost importance.
Our development philosophy closely mirrors Agile Scrum, but we are not afraid to deviate from it. We care about solving customer problems first and foremost. Please note this role will be hybrid in one of our Bay Area offices.
About You
You deeply care about your user and are relentless in your pursuit to build enterprise grade applications. You are energized by solving deep problems collaboratively and can easily transition between a Solver and Tech Lead archetype. Additionally:
  • You have 5 years of full-stack experience building production systems (with a greater emphasis on the backend)
(Bonus if you have worked on trading systems or marketplaces.)
  • You have experience in architecting complex SaaS products with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and/or event driven architecture.
  • You are passionate about some elements of our tech stack (Kafka, Python, Django, Postgres, K8s, Docker, AWS, GRPC)
  • You have a desire to become a product domain expert and are able to refine sometimes ambiguous product requirements to deliver customer value.
  • You are a strong communicator that can communicate with different stakeholders and meet them where they are.
  • You are an active participant and have a strong analytical opinion and position on how software should be engineered.
  • You are eager to move fast, but recognize when to build for the future.
Most importantly you're excited to work on a product that will fundamentally change the way private companies view liquidity.
Salary
Carta's compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, exceptional benefits, and, for applicable roles, commissions plans. Our minimum cash compensation (salary commission if applicable) range for this role is:
$168,300 - $198,000 in San Francisco, CA; Santa Clara, CA
Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on geography, candidate experience and expertise, and other factors.
We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to providing a positive interview experience for every candidate. If accommodations due to a disability or medical condition are needed, please connect with the recruiter via email. As a company, we value fairness, helpfulness, transparency, leadership and build our teams around these values. Check out our careers page to get to know us better as you think about your next step at Carta.
