As the only Broadway company exclusively devoted to living American writers, Second Stage is dedicated to introducing the world to bold and diverse voices of American creativity. Position OverviewThe Director of Foundation and Government Partnerships is a senior member of Second Stages development team, reporting to the Chief Development Officer. The Director is responsible for the development and execution of the overall strategy and plan for the organizations institutional development efforts, and for expanding and diversifying Second Stage Theaters base of foundation and government support. While the position can be fully remote, this individual must reside within commuting distance of New York City to attend onsite meetings, productions, readings, Opening Nights, and other events, as assigned. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesManage a portfolio of approximately 65 foundation and government partners generating between $1.5 and $2 million in revenue each year Develop Foundation and Government fundraising budgets and goals Develop and execute institutional fundraising strategy, ensuring a high level of quality on managing external relationships (cultivation and stewardship) and internal systems (budgeting, projections) Collaborate with senior leaders in Artistic, Marketing, and Finance to develop grant proposals, budgets, and reports and identify new strategies and opportunities to build institutional support for the theater Lead the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of strategic partnerships from foundations and government agencies Draft and edit reports, proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, pitch decks, and other materials for funders and prospects Supervise the Institutional & Educational Partnerships Manager Manage prospect research for institutional donors, with an eye toward expanding the overall institutional portfolio Keep abreast of trends in the fields of philanthropy and the performing arts and regularly review media sources for potential corporate and foundation funders and public Requests for Proposals Work with the Chief Development Officer to create an annual report, the 990, and other necessary documents to ensure the company secures the highest rating Act as liaison with relevant City of New York government agencies to maintain an ongoing relationship between the city and the theater for both capital and annual funding Represent the department at fundraising and cultivation events Perform other tasks to support the Development function, as assigned At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in grant writing and institutional giving; experience in performing arts organizations preferred Proven track record of successfully securing large grants from institutional funders In-depth knowledge of institutional fundraising landscape and trends locally and nationally Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with institutional donors and key stakeholders Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives, proposals, and reports Strong organizational and project management skills, ability to prioritize effectively, and impeccable attention to detail Strong computer skills; proficiency in MS Office Suite and fundraising databases, Tessitura preferred Commitment to Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion; thrives in a diverse working environment Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings, as required Work EnvironmentTime may be spent in an office with quiet to moderate noise level. The office environment requires using the computer, phone, and other routine office equipment. Majority of the work will be performed inside at room temperature. Physical RequirementsPosition requires long periods of sitting. While sitting in the office, employee is required to use hands, wrists, and fingers for keyboard and other office equipment. Hours of WorkSecond Stages working hours are 10 AM to 6 PM. Hours may also include nights and weekends, as assigned.
