Reports to: Lead Summer Camp Teacher

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, hourly

When Needed: Summer 2024 (June 1 - August 2, 2024)

FTE: 30 hrs/wk

The Seattle Waldorf School is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and empathetic assistant to be a part of our Early Childhood Summer Camp programming. We are looking for someone who excels not only working with children but as part of a team. We value teachers who strive to learn best practices in teaching, who are interested in collaborative and multidisciplinary approaches, and who have a calling to care for young children. We are looking for staff who share our belief that a culturally rich and inclusive summer camp community provides students with the best possible environment for quality learning.

Program Description:

The Seattle Waldorf Early Childhood Summer Camp is designed for families who need care throughout the summer. The camp will be held five days per week in 2-week sessions beginning on June 24, 2024 and concluding on August 2, 2024 for children aged 2.5 to 6 years old. This program is a part of Seattle Waldorf School offerings and will abide by the rules and regulations of Seattle Waldorf School. Programming will take place at Seattle Waldorf School’s Meadowbrook Campus indoors and outdoors.

Job Summary: Under supervision of a lead teacher, provides an optimal Summer Camp experience for children ages 2 ½ – 6 years old.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assists in leading a group of early childhood campers from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Collaborates with leaders to plan, lead, supervise camp activities
  • Effectively leads children by example to foster a safe and enthusiastic Summer program
  • With direction from supervisor, maintains consistent schedule for campers
  • Tending to children’s basic needs such as diapering or dressing, when necessary
  • Assists in facilitating and supervising children during camp start and end times
  • Provides and maintains a warm and positive environment, while establishing and managing school rules and regulations
  • Observes student behavior and implements appropriate behavior management techniques
  • Cares for and protects the safety of the students and is versed in emergency and disaster procedures.
  • Appropriately identifies and responds to any emergency
  • Accepts guidance and supervision
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Experience in a Waldorf school preferred
  • 1 years experience in a classroom environment preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of, and experience with, Social Emotional Learning and Behavior Management Strategies
  • Understanding of or interest in Waldorf Education
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, self-development, and collegial cooperation
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a hands-on team environment
  • Possessing a level of cultural competency necessary for working with a diverse population in an inclusive and equitable community

Hourly Rate of Pay: $25.50

Benefits: Seattle Sick and Safe Leave (accrued at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked)
