Job Summary: Veterinary Assistant

Veterinary Assistants help the technicians, veterinarians, and other members of the medical team in all duties of the mobile hospital. Veterinary Assistants provide for the constant cleanliness and organization of the mobile clinic, as well as all equipment and supplies. The Veterinary Assistants are responsible for assistance with examination of our patients, including recording of animal weight, temperature, appetite, and other information as directed, as well as restraint and administration of vaccinations and medications. Veterinary Assistants assist with set up and breakdown of mobile clinics and maintain the organization of mobile units.

Part time hourly non-exempt position

Schedule:

• Each Wednesday 9am – 5pm
• Due to the nature of our mobile clinic, Veterinary Assistants must be able to access transportation to and from clinic locations across Seattle and surrounding areas (including but not limited to Everett, Woodinville, and Burien).

Specific Duties

• Cleanliness and Organization
• Maintain cleanliness of public and employee areas of hospital trucks and stations during every clinic
• Stock and maintain organization of hospital supplies
• Monitor inventory of medications and supplies and assist in periodic inventory counts
• Ensure that all completed patient records are completed and properly filed at every clinic
• Sanitize scales, tables, and equipment in between every patient seen at clinics
• Maintain organization of storage areas
• Assistance with Patients
• Restrain patients for procedures performed by technicians or doctors
• Fill and label prescriptions and flea medication under the direct supervision and as directed by technicians or doctors
• Draw up vaccinations under the direct supervision and as directed by technicians or doctors
• Perform pet nail trims
• Clinic Flow
• Assist other staff or volunteers when necessary, carrying items for clients or retrieving supplies
• Assist with intake, triage, or resources as directed
• Professionalism
• Maintain a professional, cheerful, and helpful attitude when interacting with clients and other team members
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions from supervisors
• Report for scheduled shifts on time
• Wear clean scrubs or jeans.

Supervision

• The Veterinary Assistant works under the supervision of the Operations Manager However, they will also receive direction from staff Veterinarian and Executive Director.

Requirements

• The Veterinary Assistant will be required to stand for long periods, and perform moderately heavy physical labor
• The Veterinary Assistant must be able to safely and humanely handle and restrain (sometimes fractious and frightened) animals
• The Veterinary Assistant must be able to lift up to 40lbs unassisted
• The Veterinary Assistant must not have allergies to pets that will impact their ability to perform job duties
• The Veterinary Assistant must be willing to submit to a criminal background check
• Must be comfortable working with our unhoused and low-income neighbors in and out of doors
• Must be comfortable in a fast paced, triage-type environment with many moving “parts”

Desired Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 months' training/experience in animal health/welfare or veterinary medicine.
• Must have a proven track record of excellent customer service.
• Must be technologically savvy - we use a web-based clinic management program, and you must be familiar with or able to become familiar with MS Office programs

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 per week
