Seattle University is Hiring a Program Director, Equity in Computer Science Education Program Near Seattle, WA

The Department of Teaching, Learning and Social Justice in the College of Education invites applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor and Program Director for the Equity in Computer Science Education Program (ECSEP). Beginning January 1, 2024. The Program Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the curriculum and educational program for a computer science and technology-related K-12 teacher endorsement program in the Seattle University College of Education. This program is designed to prepare K-12 teachers to integrate computer science and technology with critical and social justice teaching and learning that leads to an endorsement in computer science teaching in the state of Washington.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include collaboration with the College of Education, College of Science and Engineering and Amazon to develop, implement, and continuously improve the curriculum ensuring alignment with requirements for Washington State K-12 teacher credentialling in computer science education. The Program Director will be responsible for 1) developing, implementing, and continuously improving the curriculum to ensure it aligns with requirements for Washington state K-12 teacher credentialling in computer science education; 2) fostering innovation and integration of diversity, equity and inclusion with computer science and technology in K-12 classrooms and 3) meeting the needs of students enrolled in this K-12 teaching endorsement program. This role combines K-12 educational leadership and teaching in K-12 computer science and technology with a deep understanding and appreciation for the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in the preparation of educators for K-12 computer science and technology.

The Program Director for the Equity in Computer Science Education Program (ECSEP) plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of equity-minded technology K-12 professionals, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving and increasingly diverse contexts for K-12 computer science and technology education. This role requires a strong K-12 educational background, leadership skills, and a commitment to equity and excellence in curriculum development and delivery.

The Program Director will lead the design, development, and maintenance of a comprehensive equity-driven computer science and technology education curriculum for K-12 educator preparation. They are responsible for preparation and submission of required added endorsement materials to the Washington State Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) and providing oversight throughout the added endorsement approval process. The Program Director will ensure curriculum content is current, relevant, and aligned with emerging technologies in K-12 education including AI, equity issues in technology, etc. They will ensure the incorporation of best practices in elementary and secondary pedagogy and instructional design to promote effective learning outcomes for K-12 teachers aligned with our Jesuit and Ignatian pedagogical traditions focused on developing whole persons who can create a more just and humane world.

The Program Director will also be responsible for program evaluation, resource management and overall program administration. They will establish assessment methods and evaluation criteria to measure both the effectiveness of the K-12 curriculum and educator learning outcomes. The Program Director will ensure the use of data-driven insights to make necessary adjustments and improvements to the curriculum and practices within the ECSEP program. The Director provides training and professional development opportunities for educators to enhance their K-12 teaching skills and fosters continuous learning and innovation among cohorts of K-12 educators. They are also responsible for managing budgetary resources allocated to the program, and they oversee community partnerships. The Director fosters partnerships with industry stakeholders, professional organizations, and community groups to enhance the relevance of the K-12 teaching practices and curriculum materials. The Program Director facilitates internships, professional mentoring and job placement opportunities for practicing and aspiring K-12 educators. The Program Director has full administrative responsibilities for the program.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • A master's or doctoral degree in education, computer science, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience (5 years) in curriculum development and/or educational leadership, preferably in computer science or technology education.
  • Keen interest and knowledge of K-12 computer science and technology trends, programming languages, software development methodologies, and/or IT infrastructure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with educators, administrators, and industry partners.
  • Experience with K-12 assessment and evaluation of educational program outcomes.
  • Project management skills for overseeing curriculum development and meeting program professional standards, benchmarks and goals.
  • Innovative mindset with a passion for staying current with advancements in equity driven, antiracist education and technology, especially in K-12 education systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire K-12 educators in a dynamic educational environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse K-12 educators and student populations.
  • Teaching experience in computer science or related fields.
  • Experience in curriculum development for K-12 teacher education.
  • Knowledge of regional and national education standards and regulations in K-12 education.

Compensation at a Glance:
Salary Range: $90,000 - $115,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.
