Strength & Conditioning Coach

Strength Training is for Everybody

May 2024

About Us

Seattle Strength & Performance (SSP) is a thriving training gym with three locations in Seattle, WA. Founded in 2010, it served the South Lake Union neighborhood for many years. In 2020, Chris Travis took ownership of SSP and opened SSP’s Queen Anne location in August of 2020. Despite navigating the pandemic, the business continued to grow, prompting the opening of a second location in Phinney Ridge (May 2022) and a third location in West Seattle (May 2024). Now in its 4th year under the ownership of Chris, SSP has scaled to over 500 members, a staff of 10 , and a seven-figure business. It has been discussed in articles on Nike, Insider, Runner’s World, and Livestrong. SSP’s mission is to make strength training inclusive and accessible to every person, and it provides expert coaching to deliver the best results through its proven programming. Along the way, SSP’s strong community built of committed members is there to support everyone together. In addition to training a large general adult population, SSP also trains youth athletes through its sports performance program.

We are looking to bring on a high-quality strength and conditioning coach to our team of fitness professionals. This is a part-time role, and this person must have a passion for helping others, align with our core values, and have an interest in training youth populations for sports performance as well as adult general population. The right candidate must possess a desire to contribute to a committed community of individuals (both members staff) and want to be part of a fast-growing company with strong ambitions.

Our culture is based on core values which drive our ‘why’:

#1 Strength training is for everybody: We pride ourselves in creating an inclusive community, one where everyone feels welcome, and where, no matter your age or abilities, we will train you safely and effectively.

#2 Community is everything: Coaches and members empower each other to be the best possible versions of ourselves we can be.

#3 Moving better = feeling better: We want everyone to experience the benefit of how movement positively impacts their quality of life.

#4 Smart coaching means personalized to you: Our programming is not one size fits all; we evaluate your needs and abilities and program for you to keep you healthy, moving, and to get the best results possible. The gym takes care of you; not just individuals.

#5 People are capable of much more than they think they are: Our coaches live this and we give it back to our members. We push you in the best possible way so we can see your reaction when you do something you never thought you’d be able to do.

#6 If we’re not having fun, we’re doing something wrong: Strength training should be work but should also be fun. Fitness should be fun. If you’re not having fun (and we’re not having fun), we need to find another way of doing things.

#7 Continuous learning is in our DNA: We focus on raising our own bar to be able to give the best coaching and experience we can back to our members.

About This Opportunity

You should be someone who is a self-starter, exhibits high energy working with clients, is a motivator, and cares about building a great community and culture in the gym. We are a small team and this person must exemplify the core values of our culture through their daily work. It is a paid position requiring 80 hours of shadowing and coaching work, and it is the first step to full or part time positions with SSP.
