Seattle Public Schools is Hiring a Clerical Substitute - School Year 2023-2024 Near Stanford, WA

This position's responsibilities are, under general supervision, to provide clerical support to assigned school site or central administration personnel; communicate information to staff and the public; provide complete and accurate records; and provide information and/or direction as may be requested.

  • Answers incoming telephone calls for the purpose of screening calls, transferring calls, responding to inquiries and taking messages.
  • Assists with processing of documents, forms, mailings and materials (e.g. attendance, enrollments, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
  • Distributes a variety of materials (e.g. mail, supplies, messages, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating materials to appropriate parties.
  • Monitors students during school hours in a variety of settings (e.g. recess duty, hall, transportation, lunch room, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe school environment.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. reports, memos, letters, envelopes, labels, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information regarding school and District activities and procedures.
  • Responds to inquiries of staff, the public, parents and students for the purpose of providing information and direction as may be required. Supports administrative staff (e.g. photocopies, files, sorts, typing, etc.) for the purpose of providing assistance with routine and repetitive office support functions.
  • May administer minor first aid or disperse medication in the absence of the nurse.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • Must be willing to substitute at schools throughout the District.
  • Must be willing to take further training in the District's computer systems.
  • Must be willing to perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to assigned supervisor, manager or administrator.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios
  • Understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly
  • Understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions
  • Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: age appropriate activities; business telephone etiquette; and concepts of grammar and punctuation
  • Skills are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks using existing skills
  • Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: administering first aid; operating equipment used in and office setting; adhering to safety practices; performing standard bookkeeping; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications
  • Ability is required to schedule activities
  • Collate data
  • Use basic, job-related equipment
  • Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances
  • Work with data utilizing defined and similar processes
  • Operate equipment using standardized methods

RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the Organization's services
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
REQUIRED TESTING:
Ability to type 50 wpm or pass skills test
