Position Summary

Salary for this position is $91,730.00 - $109,202.00 Anually (DOE)

If this work resonates with you, then we invite you to consider joining our team as dean of Instructional Support Services, a division that includes the library, the tutoring center and the teaching and learning center (TLC). In this role, you will lead an engaged staff, advocate for resources, plan and administer services, and collaborate with colleagues.
The library offers physical and digital materials, study spaces, reference service, and library instruction. The library staff includes librarians and classified staff. The TLC provides online and in-person support to assist campus faculty and staff with educational technology and pedagogy. TLC staff includes a faculty coordinator and faculty who provide peer support. The Tutoring Center offers academic support to all students in person and remotely. The Director of Tutoring supervises one full-time classified staff member and a large number of hourly employees. Learn more about the Library, Teaching and Learning Center, and Tutoring.

Per Governor Inslee's Proclamation 21-14.1, employees of higher education and healthcare institutions must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no later than October 18, 2021, unless a medical or religious exemption is approved. This is an on-campus, in-person role with some options for occasional remote work.
What you will be working on:
  • Supporting the college's mission by offering anti-racist student-centered services and instruction in the division
  • Providing leadership, vision, strategy, and planning to serve the needs of students, faculty, and staff
  • Leading the division's efforts to ensure access to division services for all students and support successful educational outcomes for diverse and minoritized student populations
  • Helping the division to navigate challenges and respond to complex needs within the college, district, and SBCTC Library Leadership Council
  • Leading division related initiatives, such as open education resources, and serving as the designated campus copyright officer
Advocacy & Planning
  • Representing and advocating for division departments within a complex campus environment
  • Engaging with staff in planning, developing, and implementing division services
  • Engaging with library faculty in planning and developing library instructional programs
  • Advocating for the unique needs of the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) and the Tutoring Center
  • Advocating for strategic vision for planning, developing, and maintaining the division departments
  • Planning for and supporting ongoing training and professional development, and further develop cultural competence of division faculty and staff
  • Guiding management, planning, and implementation of information technologies in the division
  • Securing funding, staffing, and other resources to support the optimal functioning of the division
  • Supporting planning and development of new and existing initiatives to meet the needs of students
Administration & Supervision
  • Developing, recommending, and managing annual operational budgets to align with the college's mission and ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines and appropriate use of funds
  • Hiring, supervising, and evaluating division employees
  • Overseeing accreditation documentation and reports related to division departments
Outreach & Collaboration
  • Participating in local, regional, and state professional organizations and representing the college's interest as appropriate
  • Collaborating with district eLearning and IT to recognize and address the teaching and learning needs of students, faculty, and staff in digital and in-person environments
  • Participating in other college activities and governance through committees, councils, and administrative meetings as assigned
  • Collaborating across various departments on campus and across all three Seattle Colleges; build collaborative channels with libraries and other areas with North and Central campuses
What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
  • ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS); OR related master's degree and demonstrated significant library experience
  • Demonstrated success in management and advocacy applicable to a complex environment, such as one that includes the library, tutoring, and/or the TLC
  • Demonstrated ability to support an environment that affirms commitment to anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to support strategies responsive to historically underrepresented or marginalized populations
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated success in managing personnel, budgets, services, or information technologies
  • Demonstrated understanding of teaching, learning, and assessment
