SEATTLE ART MUSEUM is Hiring a Digital Designer Near Seattle, WA

JOB TITLE: Digital designer

OVERVIEW: The Digital Designer is a member of the in-house creative team who supports the creative expression of the SAM brand online and digitally, through the museum’s website, email marketing, social media, and user interfaces and digital experiences. The Digital Designer collaborates with a team of designers, photographers, videographers, developers, content strategists, writers, and project managers to visually communicate and share SAM’s brand and institutional voice, including promotion for exhibitions, programs, and events.

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Design Manager

COMPENSATION: $25.31-$28.36 hourly DOE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Design and execute creative digital projects, from conception to implementation, including, web experiences, emails, digital advertising, social media campaign assets, and video.
  2. Design UI/UX projects for SAM’s website and digital experiences, smartphone tours, in-gallery interactives, and special projects, including wireframing, prototyping, designing, user testing, Q/A, and iteration. Gain feedback from stakeholders and users to solve issues and support SAM’s user and business goals.
  3. Lead maintenance of web properties including content updates, layout, image selection and sizing, and front-end coding (HTML, CSS, JS). Help design and layout content for landing pages, blog posts, and rework existing web properties to optimize for SAM’s goals.
  4. Work closely with Digital Marketing team to understand user behavior, analytics, performance, goal tracking, and help solve or evolve UI/UX accordingly.
  5. Responsible for designing and building emails. Collaborate with internal partners on email management and strategy.
  6. Produce videos for marketing and social media.
  7. Help communicate all necessary digital communications standards to align with SAM’s brand to project stakeholders.
  8. Support the creation of multi-channel campaigns for both digital and print. Design and layout print materials such as posters, brochures, programs, and signage as needed.
  9. Work and collaborate with the Education, A/V, and Technology departments and external partners to execute digital media projects.
  10. Work with Project Managers to define project goals.
  11. Keep current with web and digital media design standards, trends and innovations, and articulate how they can help SAM communicate its mission and goals.
  12. Conform to the code of ethics governing the museum profession.
  13. Represent the Museum with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. BA degree or the equivalent in graphic/digital media design or a similar, related field of study.
  2. 3 years of related web or digital media design experience. Design production knowledge; must be able to prepare designs for digital and print.
  3. Good written and oral communication skills, ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information.
  4. A strong understanding of digital user experience, web design, and email best practices.
  5. Solid knowledge of essential design programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere or Final Cut Pro, and After Effects, Adobe XD, Figma) and web tools.
  6. Solid knowledge of video production (storyboarding, editing, color correction, audio, post production, and versioning for web, social, and broadcast). Experience creating animations including motion graphics and animated gifs.
  7. Solid knowledge of user experience, web design, and email best practices. Ability to code in HTML (including HTML5) and CSS. Familiarity with JavaScript/jQuery a plus. Experience working with and designing for CMS templates. SharePoint and WordPress experience a plus. Familiarity with Google Analytics a plus.
  8. Solid knowledge of email and social media tools: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, blog writing, and MailChimp.
  9. Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks, good time-management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to meet short- and long-term deadlines and maintain fiscal oversight. Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  10. Strong ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
  11. Ability to work with co-workers and outside agencies professionally and tactfully. Ability to adhere to Museum policies and to support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work areas are inside, in a climate-controlled environment with light background noise. Work is occasionally performed at other indoor and outdoor event sites. Work may require occasional long periods of sustained standing during Museum events.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Sitting/Standing/Walking: Approximately 75% of time is spent seated while working at a desk. Balance of time (approximately 25%) is spent standing or moving around the work area. Ability to stand for extended periods of time when assisting at Museum events.

Speaking/Hearing: Clear diction and acute hearing are necessary for effective communication with donors, members, the public, and co-workers.

Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling: The ability to lift and carry up to twenty pounds is necessary for moving material and equipment for events.

Vision: Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively use the computer screens.

Stooping/Kneeling: The ability to stoop and kneel is necessary for accessing files.

Reaching/Handling: Good manual dexterity is necessary for computer keyboard use and for retrieving and working with appropriate paperwork, equipment, and supplies.
