The Seaside School District anticipates various special education teacher openings for the 2022-23 school year. We invite you to apply to our special education teaching pool of candidates and identify the age group and special skill(s) areas that you feel most successful teaching. Below is a description of our program model. 

K-2 & 3rd-5th Academic Learning Centers

Our Learning Center environment provides different avenues to meet each student's specific needs guided by their IEP. 

K-5 Academic & SEL Learning Center

Our Academic & SEL Learning Center provides students with specially designed instruction in the IEP goal areas of academics and social-emotional skills to increase participation and independence in the general education classroom.

K-5 SELB Classroom

Our SELB classroom serves students with an individualized education plan (IEP), ongoing significant social/emotional/behavioral lagging skills, ability to regulate their emotions, and mental health needs that impede their ability to access their general education settings fully. 

Developmental Classroom 

Students receiving services within this setting are provided academic support in a smaller classroom taught by a special education teacher. In addition, a modified curriculum is often utilized to meet students’ needs for continued intensive skills development. 

Secondary Behavior Support Program (6-12 )

The Secondary Behavior Support Program is a classroom for students on an individualized education plan (IEP) who have severe behavior challenges that have not been met in other instructional settings.

Secondary Life Skills Program (6-12 )

The Secondary Life Skills program is a specialized placement for students on an individualized education plan (IEP) with significant intellectual disabilities who need opportunities to develop functional academic skills, along with skills that they will need in everyday life such as self-care, vocational, functional reading and math, money management, self-advocacy, independence, and others.

Secondary Resource Room (6-8 and 9-12 ) 

The Resource Room’s particular function is for students with disabilities to receive specially designed instruction to achieve their highest educational outcomes through instruction in their individualized education plan’s (IEP) goal areas.

Autism Support Classroom (6-12 )

The Autism Support Classroom is set up to meet the specific needs of students on an individualized education plan (IEP) experiencing autism. The teacher and staff are highly trained in programs and strategies for educating students on the autism spectrum in this classroom.

JOB TITLE: Special Education Teacher(s)

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of Special Services

JOB SUMMARY: Provides specialized learning experiences to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities in a variety of supportive and positive learning environments. Uses equity and trauma-informed lens to provide behavior support through prevention, intervention, and responsive actions to students who experience mental health issues that impact their school performance. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Bachelor’s Degree or higher. 
2. Hold or be eligible for Oregon Teaching Certification with Special Education Endorsement. 
3. Ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, and parents from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Master’s degree. 
2. Prior successful experience teaching students with disabilities in a variety of settings.
3. Experience developing legally compliant Individual Education Plans. 
4. Experience conducting Functional Behavior Analyses and writing effective Behavior Support Plans.
5. Proficient in Trauma-Informed Practices and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies. 
6. Proficient in the use of educational technology systems. 
7. Spanish language skills. 

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Use multiple sources of information to develop a comprehensive understanding of students’ strengths and needs. 
2. Collaborate with school personnel and family members to systematically design specialized instruction for students with disabilities in identified areas of need.
3. Work in partnership with school personnel to provide instructional and behavioral support for students with disabilities in various settings. 
4. Establish and maintain a consistent, organized, respectful, and effective learning environment 
5. Monitor student progress regularly and provide written reports of progress toward IEP goals to parents in accordance with the District’s schedule. 
6. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, staff, and families concerning students’ progress towards their individual goals. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190-day contract at 1.0 FTE. Salary as per negotiated contract with an excellent benefits package. Some positions may be contingent on 2022-2023 budget approval and some may be for temporary terms. Starting date: August 2022.
