We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Veterinarian Technician to join our team at SeaQuest. As a Veterinarian Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting the health and well-being of our animals (marine and terrestrial). You will work closely with the site’s veterinarian, providing essential care, diagnostic procedures, and treatment to a diverse range of species. This position requires a strong background in veterinary medicine and a passion for wildlife conservation. Responsibilities:
Animal Care and Monitoring:
  • Assist with the daily care and monitoring of zoo animals, ensuring their health, safety, and comfort.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Observe animal behavior and report any abnormal changes to the veterinarian.
  • Assist with feeding and nutritional management of animals, following prescribed diets.
Veterinary Procedures:
  • Assist the veterinarian in performing medical examinations, diagnostic tests, and minor surgical procedures on marine and terrestrial animals.
  • Prepare and maintain medical equipment and supplies necessary for veterinary procedures.
  • Collect and analyze samples for laboratory tests, including blood, urine, and fecal samples.
Medical Records and Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for each animal, including treatment plans, medications, and procedures performed.
  • Enter data into computer systems and ensure proper documentation of all veterinary activities.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of veterinary supplies and medications.
Emergency Response:
  • Assist in emergency situations, including animal injuries, illnesses, or escapes.
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to emergencies, following established protocols.
Collaboration and Education:
  • Collaborate with the aquarium's veterinary team, animal care staff, and other departments to ensure proper animal care and welfare.
  • Participate in educational programs, presentations, and events to promote wildlife conservation and awareness.
Requirements:
  • 3-5 years experience working with exotic animals, preferably in a zoo or wildlife setting.
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary medicine, animal care, and behavior.
  • Proficient in administering medications, performing medical procedures, and collecting samples.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team and collaborate effectively with colleagues from various disciplines.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects and restraining animals.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and be on-call for emergencies.
Education:
  • Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, or LVT) is required.
