Delivery Driver

Summary

The delivery driver operates a motor vehicle with a capacity of up to 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight (GVW) on public highways to transport non-hazardous materials or equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Actively participate in Seaport Steel's Safety Program.
• Drive vehicles with capacities under three tons to transport materials to and from specified destinations, such as railroad stations, plants, residences, offices, or industrial yards.
• Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, or brakes, to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition.
• Inspect material ensuring it matches shipping paperwork
• Decide if the load is road-ready
• Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
• Adjust load for safety and availability
• Secure load
• Deliver and pick up material based on the routing

Education/Experience

• GED or High School Degree.

Certificates/Licenses

• Driver's License
• Medical DOT Card

Language Ability

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Math Ability

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as adding up shipping orders to ensure the load is at the legal weight. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Knowledge

• Basic understanding of computers and the internet.
