Sealaska/Woocheen Family of Businesses is Hiring a SHI - Education Language Coordinator Near Juneau, AK

Job DescriptionThe primary objective of this position is to develop heritage language material and promote inclusive language learning opportunities, which are administered through the Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) Education Department; under the direct supervision of the Education Director. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workload and to recommend changes in relation to program practices and procedures. Duties/ResponsibilitiesOversee and report to Project Director the participation of each heritage language scholar, including monthly one-on-one check-ins.Monitor and share the academic performance of the scholars with the Project Director, consistent with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).Collaborate with UAS financial aid department and the Project Director to pay tuition course fees for the fully funded heritage language scholars and to administer the language course scholarships each semester.Coordinate internships with heritage language scholars and language students on internships connecting with interdisciplinary study, travel options, and cultural programming.Foster partnernships with local community organizations and cultural heritage organizations for internship experience implementation.Coordinate mentors for scholars in each cohort, that will provide oversight and support in heritage language audio translation and transcription.Organize professional development opportunities for program participants and staff.Supervise and execute the yearly summer language workshops.Other duties as assigned. Required SkillsDemonstrated high level of verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Exhibited ability to manage multiple projects and activities with attention to detail. Strong organizational and planning skills in program coordination. Technical capacity and expertise in using charts, tables, graphs, spreadsheets, and databases. Extensive knowledge of Southeast Alaska Native culture and languages. Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position will have no reports.Work EnvironmentThis positions duties are performed at the Walter Soboleff Building. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently life and/or move objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally life and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. About this RoleThis is a full-time benefited position. SHI employees are expected to work during SHI's regular business hours of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. Additionally, many employees may work up to 45 hours per week or additional time as needed to meet workload demands or special events such as Celebration. Required Education & Experience3 years of professional work in project management and program coordination. Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree in education, language, or project-related field. Preferred Education & Experience5 years of professional work in the education or project-related field.
