Sea Pines Resort is Hiring a Golf Course Starter/Ranger Near Hilton Head Island, SC

As Starter, controls start of play for each group; as Ranger, patrols golf course to prevent unauthorized persons from using facilities, keep play running smoothly, and assist injured or ill players by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Starter

Greets members and guests of resort, makes them feel welcome, and helps meet their needs.

Spreads hospitality and good will among all members and guests of the Resort.

Verifies tee times for each group, explains rules of course for the day, and initiates play.

Keeps log of daily activities.

Ranger

Greets members and guests of resort, makes them feel welcome, and helps meet their needs.

Spreads hospitality and good will among all members and guests of the Resort.

Inspects player registration and green fee tickets for validity.

Prevents players from entering course beyond starting tee.

Advises players to speed up or slow down in order to alleviate bottlenecks.

Explains rules of game to players to settle disputes.

Locates damaged or hazardous areas and marks areas for repair.

Cautions players against tearing up turf or otherwise abusing course.

Renders first aid to injured or ill players and carries their equipment to clubhouse.

Returns lost equipment to owners or to clubhouse.

Keeps log of daily activities.

Delivers urgent messages to players on course.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (None other than self-management)

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and minimum of six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of golf play and etiquette.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

S.C. driver's license or other state license that is free of violations that would restrict commercial insurance qualification.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute quickly correct change.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving members, guests, suppliers, equipment, and supplies in a timely and effective manner. Needs efficient time-management skills. Will work unsupervised for extended periods of time. Is empowered within Resort and department guidelines to resolve customer problems.

SOCIAL SKILLS

Personal integrity is a must and must maintain a professional manner with the public . Ability to interact effectively with guests, members, and customers of diverse ages, backgrounds, and interests. Ability to project a service-mentality with a warm, caring attitude while maintaining order and efficiency. Individual must be responsible and have the maturity to be able to work alone. Must have good guest-service skills and be capable of handling effectively difficult guests and guest complaints. Must be able to work in a teamwork environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

ECONOMIC IMPACT The impact of decision-making and the potential gain or loss to the resort in performing the job responsibilities.

The decision-making must ensure good guest service balanced with shop sales revenue. This position has the ability to affect directly Resort revenue. There are considerable resort liability issues in failing to perform the job responsibilities. Increased resort revenues from additional Resort business can result from high levels of performance in the job.
