SDII Global Corporation is Hiring a Principal Geologist Near Tampa, FL

*Master’s degree in Geology required

*P.G. license in the State of Florida required

*Must be currently local to the greater Tampa Bay Area.

The Principal Geologist is responsible for providing professional expertise to the Geology department, including initial quality review for subsidence reports, completing peer reviews, litigation support and performing geophysical testing and evaluation reports.

Education/Experience:

Master’s degree in Geology required. P.G. license in the State of Florida required. Preferred skills: additional licensure in other states; experience launching new service lines. Minimum ten (10) years related experience required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities for this position:

  • Geologist of Record for Florida sinkhole loss and other geological investigations. Responsible for preparing and signing and sealing reports.
  • Review investigation reports for quality assurance and statutory compliance when applicable; verify that all elements of the report, including figures, logs, labs, text, etc., are accurate and complete.
  • Provide scientific and technical evaluations for sinkhole related investigations.
  • Interpret ground penetrating radar and other geophysical data.
  • Manage and complete geophysics projects.
  • Assist field personnel with questions related to data collection.
  • Visit project sites when needed to evaluate progress and direct required action.
  • Assist in the determination of boring locations, termination depths, relocation of boring, or cancellation of borings, as deemed required during drilling operations.
  • Interact with field personnel and drilling teams to identify problems and solutions at project sites.
  • Verify and approve data collected by field technicians and check results of field tests completed during site investigations.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time.
  • Respond to client requests and write addendum letters when necessary.
  • Discuss reports with homeowners, as needed and when approved by our client.
  • Conduct peer reviews of other experts’ reports as needed.
  • Provide litigation support through depositions and trials.
  • In partnership with Company marketing efforts, solicit, bid, perform and interpret new projects for the Geology and Geophysics lines of business, including preparing project proposals for geophysics work.
  • Author and publish articles in technical journals, participate in professional society business and networking and serve as a leader in the geological/geophysics industry.
  • Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Geology Operations Manager/President.

Experience/Performance Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Requires extensive expertise in Florida karst geology and karst science.
  • Extensive experience in Florida sinkhole loss investigations.
  • Experience with GPR, ER, and other forms of geophysical data collection, processing, and interpretation.
  • Maintain licensure as a Professional Geologist in the State of Florida; work to continue personal competency through continuing education, outside literature, seminars, etc. Ability to obtain PG licensure in TN.
  • Have knowledge of functional business principals and best practices with a “big picture” perspective.
  • Have administrative abilities and be detail oriented.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exhibit excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to interact and work well with others.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to type a minimum of 50 wpm; possess knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling; and have the ability to use reference guides and equipment manuals.
  • Computer experience in a Windows environment, Microsoft Office (Excel, WORD). Experience interpreting GPR data in RADAN (GSSI) software. Ability to learn and use other software programs including, but not limited to, Smart Draw, Company Database. Ability to demonstrate computer skills in pre-employment skills test.
  • Possess a Florida Driver’s License and ability to use personal vehicle for Company business.
  • Adhere to the Company Drug Free Workplace Policy and successfully complete pre-employment and random drug screenings.
  • Successfully complete background-screening process, including criminal, social security verification, credit history, workers’ compensation, and MVR screenings

Typical Physical Demands:

Requires individual to perform a broad range of activities. Requires full range of motion, including manual and finger dexterity and hand and eye coordination. Requires corrected vision, speech and hearing to normal range, or special accommodations made of a sufficient nature for completion of tasks. Ability to lift 20 pounds. Requires the ability to drive. Occasionally requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.

Typical Working Conditions:

Primarily office environment, job site, automobile. While performing duties the employee will work in a climate-controlled office environment. Exposures include but are not limited to; continual use of video display terminals (VDTs), repetitive activities such as keyboarding and mouse operations, other tasks associated with the ergonomics of computer workstations, and general operation of office machines. Some field work is required as necessary for litigation support. While performing field work, the employee is exposed to outdoor conditions, weather elements, moderate to high noise levels, and frequently works near moving mechanical equipment. Potential job hazards are dehydration, electrical shock and ground collapse.
