4-H Youth Program Advisor (Aurora County)South Dakota 4-HSouth Dakota State University Extension Are you ready to make a meaningful impact on the lives of South Dakota youth? Through experiential learning and mentoring relationships, South Dakota 4-H prepares youth to lead lives of possibility amidst the grand challenges of our time. As a part of SDSU Extension, South Dakota 4-H extends the resources of our university to every community across the state, serving as “the front porch” of SDSU. We are looking to hire a people-centered educator or youth development professional who is a strong collaborator and is committed to SDSU Extension’s core values. The selected individual will develop and teach educational programs both in school and out-of-school settings, manage volunteers, work with local stakeholders, and more. This position is located in Plankinton, South Dakota and is a 12-month, part-time(47% time), leave-eligible position. South Dakota 4‑H is a community that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. Youth learn and experience our world through projects in areas like health, science, agriculture, and citizenship, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Young people experience 4‑H through in-school and after-school programs, school and community clubs and 4‑H camps. We recognize that the youth of today are our future leaders and what they learn and experience in 4-H will help them develop into contributing citizens who will give back to their communities in the future. South Dakota State University promotes access to and opportunities for all to receive the benefit of and participate in education, research, and service and is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to this land-grant mission of access. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Our Extension 4-H Youth Program Advisors provide timely 4-H Youth Development research-based information, resources, education, leadership and support to meet the needs of youth in the county and/or reservation while building relationships to enhance and carry out the mission of SDSU Extension.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s Degree in an Education field, Child or Youth Development, or a closely related field with relevant youth development experience and coursework;Excellent oral and interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with multiple constituents;Ability to lead and/or work as a contributing member of a team;Demonstrated experience in planning, teaching, and evaluating educational programs for a variety of youth audiences;Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs;Effective written communication skills;Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;Must be able to use a computer for basic word processing, electronic communications, and reporting; Valid driver’s license and automobile, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, and willingness to travel; andMust be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Previous 4-H or similar youth development experience;Demonstrated ability to manage local 4-H operational elements including event management, budget, volunteer and support staff supervision, and committee coordination; Demonstrated leadership in building and leading partnerships with volunteer groups, committees, partners, and supporting agencies;Demonstrated collaboration in developing funding proposals or grants to support new and/or enhanced programming;Experience in publishing extension materials and/or curricula; and Experience developing strategies for outreach and expansion including program delivery.BENEFITS:We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 6% matching, 10 hours of annual leave each month, 9.34 hours of sick leave each month, and eleven paid holidays.
