Job Description: 
The Utility Superintendent is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all utility construction activities. They will oversee a crew of 5-15 construction employees and ensure that all projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and supervise all utility construction activities, including water/sewer, electrical, and gas
  • Direct all field personnel to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget, and with quality workmanship that conforms to assigned plans and specifications
  • Read specifications, such as blueprints to determine construction requirements or to plan procedures
  • Locate, measure, and mark site locations or placement of structures or equipment, using measuring and marking equipment
  • Create and maintain construction schedules, identify and solve problems, and order materials and schedule inspections as necessary throughout the process
  • Record information such as personnel, production, or operational data on specified forms or reports
  • Maintain positive relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers, and other employees
  • Prepare, schedule, and supervise completion of phases of the project, including a final punch list
  • Examine and inspect work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met
  • Promote job site safety, encourage safe work practices, and rectify job site hazards immediately
  • Ensure all company employees and contractors are adhering to the company safety policy
  • Maintain an organized job site, including the construction office

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years supervisor experience in the heavy commercial/industrial construction industry
  • Experience in water/sewer utility construction required
  • Other types of heavy civil construction experience are a plus
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and other technical documents
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Safety Guidelines:

  • The Utility Superintendent must promote job site safety and encourage safe work practices. They must also rectify job site hazards immediately and ensure that all company employees and contractors are adhering to the company safety policy.
