Job Description:
Position Summary:
The Office of Institutional Diversity in the Division of Student Affairs invites applications for Graduate Assistants who will assist in the organization, coordination and implementation of the Summer Institute (SI) program and the New International Students & Scholars Orientation (NISSO) program and other programs as needed. This is an excellent opportunity for someone pursuing a career that involves student services and learning experiences and is interested in cultivating an inclusive and interactive environment for the Harvey Mudd Community. The Graduate Assistants will also have the opportunity to create programming for the spring semester that is inclusive and equitable, focuses on diversity and access, and creates a sense of belonging on campus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in training SI & NISSO mentor teams to prepare for the arrival of the participants of both programs.
  • Assist with developing assessment tools; and with gathering data to help evaluate, modify and implement strategies.
  • Provide outreach and education to diverse audiences through presentations, training, one-on-one meetings, media outreach, and other outreach strategies.
  • Maintain the OID website and social media channels to increase engagement.
  • Organize, create and measure creative campaigns to increase participation in OID and ISS events.
  • Maintain community presence by continually updating resources and contacts.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with student organizations and campus partners.
  • Perform administrative duties, such as overseeing mailings, marketing materials inventory, call management reporting, & tracks outreach activities.
  • Aid in proctoring exams for the Office of Accessible Education.
  • Assist with office upkeep, manage inventory of supplies and assist with procuring supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively with HMC students.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment in decision-making. Ability to prioritize multiple duties/tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to think strategically, plan effectively, and manage projects/events.
  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to high standards and attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment and interact successfully with individuals with varying abilities, backgrounds, interests, and beliefs.
  • Ability to work weekends and evening hours depending on programmatic needs.
  • Adept at using software such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Google Drive, Canva, PowerPoint, Access, and Adobe Acrobat.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an educational environment.
  • Experience in managing a student program and working with students.
Education: Bachelor's degree and enrollment in a Master's degree program in Higher Education Administration, Mathematics, Science, Education, or another related field.
Experience: Experience developing and maintaining positive and trusting relationships with members of various community organizations, schools, and outreach programs.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the College's automobile insurance carrier.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit; stand use hands and fingers and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The individual must regularly lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Hours: Up to 20 hours per week.
Classification :
This is a temporary, non-exempt, part-time, up to 20 hours per week, non-benefits eligible position from April 2024 to May 2025
Salary
The anticipated starting salary is $17.00/hour. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Reporting :
Reports to the Associate Dean for the Office of Institutional Diversity.
