Scrap Metal Services, LLC in East Chicago, IN is seeking an exceptionally strong Wheel Loader Operator to join their team for a NIGHT SHIFT position.SUMMARY

Wheel Loader Operator will learn the role and complete work at the direction of a more senior Equipment Operator or Supervisor.
Wheel Loader Operator will learn how to operate a Volvo L90E (or similar) Wheel Loader in a safe and effective manner while moving scrap around the scrap yard for processing and loading into a shaker table.
Wheel Loader Operator will ensure that all of their efforts are compliant with the Company’s Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Safety and coordination with other work onsite is imperative.

RESPONSIBILITIESAt the direction of a more senior Equipment Operator or Supervisor:

Operate a Wheel Loader.
Move scrap material around the scrap yard.
Load scrap material into a shaker table for processing.
Assist in day-to-day manual labor tasks and activities when machinery does not need to be operated.
Assist in daily housekeeping and keeping the yard clean.
Coordinate machine actions with other activities occurring throughout the yard, such as positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from other crew members.
Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as other equipment, workers, or moving objects.
Perform and document daily inspections, safety checks, preventive maintenance, and repairs of equipment; check required fluids and grease equipment. Report any equipment deficiencies or malfunctions to the proper supervisor.
Cross-train in other positions and assist other employees as needed.
Potential to perform general labor duties which may/may not include sweeping, raking, shoveling/snow removal, general clean-up of work area and equipment, and physically handling materials and supplies.
Other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisors and Management.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

At least 1 Year of experience operating a Wheel Loader (Volvo L90E or similar)
ABILITY TO WORK NIGHT SHIFT IS A MUST AND NON-NEGOTIABLE!
Basic literacy in English or Spanish
Strong communication and time management skills
Ability to operate with integrity
Ability to work with a positive attitude
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Reliability to report to work on time
Ability to work well with others as part of a team in a fast-paced, non-stop environment
Understand and follow supervisors’ directives (written and oral instructions)
Flexibility to changing work conditions, assignments, and schedules
Ability to work weekends and holidays
Ability to work in all weather elements including rain, snow, extreme heat, and extreme cold
Comfortable working in an industrial environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM JOB

Ability to sit in the seat of the heavy machinery (wheel loader) continually; stand rarely except when walking to and from worksite; walk and stand on uneven surfaces
Communicate by speech and hearing; hear audible warning signals
Operate and move various equipment – may require dexterity to push, pull, climb, bend, twist, turn, reach, kneel, squat, grasp, etc.
Visual acuity needed for contrast observation and scrap inspection
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects of 50 pounds or more

SAFETY

Perform and document daily safety and maintenance checks
Operate a Wheel Loader in a safe and appropriate manner
Strictly adhere to all SMS Health, Safety, and Environmental standards
Follow all safety guidelines and protocol, including wearing of all required PPE
Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors
Adhere to all local, state, OSHA and environmental regulations as outlined in the Employee Safe Work Guidelines booklet, Safety Rule Sign-Off Sheet, and any/all information provided by the Company

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Extra hours may be required, sometimes on weekends and weekdays based on volume and operational needs
Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive an automobile is required
US Work Authorization – REQUIRED
Passing of Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Testing – REQUIRED
