Scout Motors is Hiring a Senior Specialist, Material & Chemical Compliance Near Columbia, SC

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the all-electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Scout’s material and chemical compliance program as it relates to Scout manufactured products and purchased components
  • Ensure products meet restricted chemicals and substance of concern regulations including, but not limited to: PFAS, REACH, TSCA, RoHS, SCIP, GADSL, etc. 
  • Partner closely with Procurement to evaluate Scout’s supply chain for compliance 
  • Routinely interact with product, engineering and process teams to advise on and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Perform material compliance evaluation for new parts/components and changes to existing parts/components using internal systems and the International Material Data System (IMDS)
  • Generate and maintain Scout’s approved, restricted and prohibited materials and chemicals lists and associated documents
  • Conduct assessments to identify non-compliance issues and work with suppliers and multiple Scout functions to address non-compliance items
  • Identify and implement digital tools for management of regulatory documents, inventories, etc
  • Contribute to the development of the Scout Environment, Health & Safety Management System
  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and ensure that the Management System remains compliance with applicable laws, regulations, corporate commitments as well as emerging best practices
  • Ensure routine communication related to current, changing and future regulatory requirementsto stakeholder groups
  • Other tasks or projects as directed by the Manager, Environmental and Sustainability.

Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, South Carolina. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Toxicology, Environmental Science or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • 7 years of experience in a materials compliance and/or regulatory role supporting manufacturing is required. Experience in automotive and/or chemical manufacturing is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive working knowledge of PFAS, RoHS, REACH, TSCA, etc.
  • Familiarity with IMDS and GADSL is desired.
  • Adept at establishing new standards, processes and controls in a fast-paced, startup environment
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear, succinct manner 
  • Experience conducting/supporting internal audits and managing external audits
  • Excellent computer and systems knowledge, including Microsoft Office365 and Project

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $120,000-$135,000

Internal leveling code: IC8
