Scotsdale Unified School District is Hiring an Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Near Scottsdale, AZ

The job of Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services is done for the purpose(s) of planning, developing, implementing and evaluating instructional programs for all District students; providing leadership and supervision of curriculum and instruction; fostering continuous school improvement in academic content standards and assessment, teaching and learning, professional development, parent engagement; ensuring compliance with policies, practices and procedures.

This position reports to the Superintendent.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Plan:

  • Provide the Superintendent with annual recommendations regarding the update of district goals.
  • Conduct activities necessary to retain and develop the highest qualified candidates for positions within the educational services area. Design and conduct appropriate training and development programs for department staff and conduct all activities necessary to the supervision of these employees.

Curriculum:

  • Design, implement, and maintain a curriculum development system in accordance with district goals and the needs of the students of the District.

Assessment:

  • Develop and maintain the assessment program which is consistent with District goals, national trends in assessment, and the Arizona Student Assessment Program.

Professional Development:

  • Design, implement, and maintain a professional development program which will provide leadership to all staff toward the accomplishment of the mission of the District.
  • Maintain communication with other agencies and school districts to share and receive information of effective practices and extended support.
  • Provide support for the PreK-12 instructional program.
  • Maintain a learning environment that encourages an appreciation of cultural and ethnic diversity.

Instructional Technology:

  • Work cooperatively and as a resource to the District’s instructional technology program.

Personnel/Leadership:

  • Maintain required formal evaluation procedures for all staff under their supervision.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with school-based and District-level administrators to ensure information exchange, coordination of efforts and general support for the decision making process.

District Responsibilities:

  • Perform all responsibilities for curriculum services in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations of the State Board of Education.
  • Perform all responsibilities for educational services in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations of the State Board of Education.
  • Perform all such responsibilities in accordance with District policies. Employ sound operating procedures in the conduct of the department, and maintain positive and service-oriented relationships with the staff and the community.
  • Prepare new or revised Board policies, procedures and administrative practices for the Superintendent’s review and action as needed.
  • Perform in other areas of responsibility as assigned by the Superintendent.

  • Demonstrate personal skills and leadership in the performance of responsibilities including planning, active use of time, staff relations, and maintaining technical skills required for effective performance.

Consultation:

  • Consults with other members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet to ensure continuity and clarity of the District mission.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education:

  • Doctorate preferred

Experience:

  • Three years successful teaching experience and three years successful administrative experience.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated leadership in the curriculum field.
  • Administrative abilities in the area of staff supervision, budget, and legal requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff and community.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Appropriate Arizona administrative certification required

KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws.

SKILLS (position requirements at entry):

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: people interaction skills, operate standard office equipment; plan and manage projects; utilize pertinent software applications.

ABILITY (position requirements at entry):

ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: significant interpersonal relationship abilities; deal with multiple tasks simultaneously; make sound, timely decisions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
