Purpose
: The Corporate Finance Advisory Function exists to help generate, integrate and deliver thoughtful capital market solutions to Scotiabank’s Global Banking & Markets corporate clients. The Function partners with Corporate & Investment Banking sector teams, Debt Capital Markets, and other product areas to provide in-depth analysis, drive idea generation, strengthen financing recommendations and help identify ancillary business opportunities.

The team is expanding its credit ratings advisory function to deliver on its global mandate. Focus areas include: debt capacity analysis, capital structure optimization to achieve financial and/or credit rating objectives, impact assessment of strategic initiatives, rating agency process facilitation and outcome management for inaugural and existing issuers.


Position Highlights
: In this role you will utilize your industry & ratings advisory experience to conduct financial reviews of companies and present findings in a concise and professional manner internally to product partners and externally to our clients. Emphasis will also be placed on the ability to help source new quality revenue opportunities from existing & new Bank relationships, and the potential need for investment banking services. You will also be responsible for generating and executing ratings advisory opportunities for industry specific companies and have responsibility for coaching and developing junior team members.

On any given project, you will interact with other departments of the firm such as Investment Banking sector teams, Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Banking, Debt Capital Markets, and Equity Capital Markets, gaining knowledge and understanding of both investment banking and the capital markets.


What You’ll Bring

  • 7 years of industry experience, ideally at a rating agency. Experience in investment banking or leveraged finance will also be considered.
  • Ideally you’ll have a broad range of industry exposure
  • The ability to deliver high-quality presentations and well thought-out analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations
  • A high level of energy and a keen desire to learn new concepts
  • Independent thinker and proven ability to make decisions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work
  • The ability to excel under pressure amid demanding deadlines
  • High professional standards including a strong sense of personal integrity and teamwork
  • Inclusive leadership style with the desire to coach team members, in addition to acting in a mentorship capacity to promote continuous growth and development
  • Ideal candidate will possess a relevant Bachelor or Master Degree in Business, Finance, Math, Engineering, Economics, Science or Technology, or equivalent qualification and have an excellent academic and professional record
  • Considered an asset to have completed Masters-level/MBA education (although not essential) and CFA or equivalent designation is an asset
