The Strategic Sourcing Category Manager ensures delivery of a capable supply base that enables SCN BestCo to meet current and anticipated future needs. This is achieved by engaging stakeholders across the enterprise to assess category & sub-category requirements for supply assurance, quality, service, cost savings, innovation, & regulatory requirements. The position manages overall supplier relationships including negotiating pricing and contract terms as well as supplier performance and compliance. The Strategic Sourcing Category Manager is responsible for developing strong business partnerships to collaborate on strategy across SCN BestCo while driving category, supplier, and sourcing strategies to maximize value.

This position can be Remote/Hybrid, or on-site at any of our SCN BestCo sites (Golden CO, Mooresville NC, or Santa Cruz, CA)

Estimated starting hourly base rate is $87,760.96 - $164,551.81 less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary, variable annual incentive, based on company performance factors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and document sourcing strategies that drive best Total Cost of Ownership through favorable supply assurance, quality, service, cost, innovation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Actively engage stakeholders for inputs to strategy development and gain consensus on final strategy.
  • Know base material and raw material trends that impact assigned categories. Provide insights on these trends and advise on business opportunities and risks.
  • Analyze spend and supplier data, supply market, quality data, part/ingredient specifications, transportation, and other relevant market or technical information to develop effective approaches to drive category strategies.
  • Understand current and potential suppliers, and supply opportunities related to assigned categories.
  • Assess and mitigate risk within assigned categories.
  • Translate strategy into action through project deployment to site Procurement Operations, innovation teams, commercial partners, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Own all operations for assigned categories including master project pipeline, supplier relationships, assessing and mitigating risk, and contract negotiations in order to build and maintain a robust and flexible supply chain.
  • Travel to vendor and SCN BestCo sites with some international travel (Up to 30%).

People Leader Responsibilities

If direct reports are assigned, the Strategic Sourcing Category Manager will carry out People Leader Responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include:

  • Direct supervision of 1-5 employees to include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding, and administering corrective actions; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Provide 360-degree feedback, as requested, for leaders, peers, and subordinate team members.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, procurement, operations, engineering, or related field.
  • 5 years’ experience in a purchasing role, including strategy development, with food ingredients or packaging, or commensurate combination of education and work experience.
  • 3 years’ experience conducting contract negotiations with suppliers.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Thorough knowledge of project management procedures and best practices.
  • Expert in Microsoft Office as well as SAP and/or other ERP systems.
  • Comfortable working in both a cross-functional/matrixed team environment and independently.
  • Analytical, organized, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, utilize time efficiently, and multi-task in an ever changing, fast-paced environment.
  • Able to adapt to changing procedures and environment.
  • Displays professionalism and sound judgement in all situations.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal staff and management. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s in business administration (MBA) or equivalent.
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) and/or Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Membership.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • General knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Experience in food manufacturing or vitamin, mineral, and supplement industry.
  • Continuous improvement experience.
  • Experience working in a cGMP environment.
