Middle School Basketball Coach

Position Summary

We are seeking excellent candidates for boys 5th through 8th grade Basketball Coaches for the 2023 Winter season SHB Basketball. We seek coaches that are high energy, skilled, organized, and good leaders who can create a positive atmosphere in which our student athletes can thrive. We seek a coach who is enthusiastic about building our Basketball program.Previous coaching and/or playing experience is required. Coaching is a unique position of leadership which requires sound judgement amidst the emotional extremes of athletic competition. The example that the coach exhibits must educate players and spectators as to the high standards of sportsmanship and character development that is expected at Convent & Stuart Hall. The promotion of learning is the most important outcome of educational athletics. It should be understood that our programs seek excellence and will deliver it by providing our student athletes with confidence and a clear understanding of the values of personal integrity, work ethic, self-responsibility, responsibility to others, overcoming challenges through adversity, teamwork and a progression from simple participation to development to high levels of achievement. Our student athletes expect our coaches to be competent, approachable, confident, fair and consistent. Candidates should be compelling practitioners who use sound judgement at all times. All coaches are expected to contribute to the life of the school community in general. Schools of the Sacred Heart is committed to an in-person teaching model and faculty and staff must be prepared to adhere to and support our Health and Safety Plan

Responsibilities

Follow CIF rules and regulations,Plan and implement the scheduling of team activities, tryouts, practices, game plans.
Foster training in conduct, ethics, and sportsmanship for all participants and coaches.
Supervision of the team before, during and after practices, games and sporting events.
Verify that the Athletic Director has cleared each team member before allowing him/her to tryout or practice.
Work with the Athletic Director, Principal Designee, Principal and other coaches to solve problems at the school level while supporting the ideas of the program/parent concern procedures.
Continually reviews the on‐going effectiveness of the program at all levels.Adhere to all C&SH Athletics, League and State policies

Qualifications

To be considered candidates should submit a resume and cover letter displaying their qualifications in the following areas:

  • Independent and collaborative leadership is required as well as effective communication skills. 

  • Coaches at Convent & Stuart Hall are confident and creative practitioners who have the ability to develop, curate and deliver a growth mindset environment centered around sportsmanship, teamwork, and overcoming challenges. 

  • Candidates should have excellent writing and communication skills. 

  • Ability to differentiate to meet the needs of students with diverse learning profiles. 

  • Innovative, creative, and flexible coaching style. 

  • Understanding the developmental needs of students and how they learn best.

  • Requires demonstrated and direct experience using a wide range of techniques. 

  • Must be detail-oriented, organized and willing to take initiative. 

  • Must have excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work well with students and adults.

  • Must be a role model and maintain a high level of professionalism. 

  • Experience with independent schools is strongly preferred.

Must be willing to get: First Aid and CPR Certification, Concussion Training & Fundamentals of Coaching Certification

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lifting or carrying 20-50 lbs. 

  • Regular pushing/pulling/bending/stooping/kneeling

  • Regularly climbing stairs** 

  • Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours 

  • Requires physical presence, work to be performed on campus

Hourly Rate of Pay : Commensurate on experience.
