Convent Elementary & Stuart Hall for Boys are divisions within Schools of the Sacred Heart, San Francisco, serving girls and boys in grades K-8. We are seeking excellent candidates for the role of Associate Teacher- Grade 3. Associate Teachers are essential members of the Convent & Stuart Hall community. They not only form a special bond with their Lead Teacher, but also participate in all school activities as full faculty members. Their energy, enthusiasm, and new ideas are greatly valued at our school. The primary purpose of the Associate Teacher Program is to support our Lead Teachers and Lower Form students. In addition, the program provides a learning opportunity for men and women interested in becoming educators.

The Associate Teacher Program is a two-three year program that familiarizes the Associate Teacher with theoretical and practical aspects of classroom teaching. Associate Teachers are assigned to a grade and section in kindergarten - fourth grade and are partnered with a Lead Teacher who mentors his/her development as an educator. They have the option to reapply once their three-year term is complete, but are not guaranteed placement. Agreements are reassessed and renewed (if appropriate) yearly. Associate Teachers are expected to attend all faculty meetings and periodic pedagogical workshops given on campus. They are also encouraged to take advantage of off campus opportunities for professional growth. Release time available for approved workshops.

Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher and Associate Teacher Coordinator, and through meetings and workshops designed specifically for our Associate Teachers, the Associate Teachers develop these important skills:

  • building relationships with students

  • observing, assessing, and supervising students

  • previewing and selecting curricular materials

  • developing appropriate and successful teaching methods

  • planning and implementing lessons

  • managing students and classrooms

  • conferencing and writing reports

  • job searching and portfolio/resume development

Qualifications


To be considered candidates should submit a resume and cover letter displaying their qualifications in the following areas:

Requires an undergraduate degree and relevant experience with children, classroom experience is preferred, but not required. An interest in pursuing a career in education with excellent writing and communication skills with both children and adults. History of collegiality and collaboration with other teachers and administrators. Requires experience using a wide range of instructional technology tools including iPads, laptops, and Google Apps. Must be detail-oriented, organized and willing to take initiative. Must have excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work well with students and adults. Must be a role model and maintain a high level of professionalism. Experience with independent schools is strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements include:

Regularly lifting or carrying 1-20 lbs. Regular pushing/pulling/bending/stooping/kneeling. Regularly climbing stairs** Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours. Requires physical presence, work to be performed on campus**

Salary will be prorated based on anticipated employment period from January through June 2024.
