Elementary School Summer Boost Social Emotional Learning Interventionist

Summer Boost Overview

Funded by a grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, Summer Boost is designed to support rising 1st through 4th grade students to accelerate their academic progress in ELA and math while providing engaging enrichment opportunities. School in the Square’s Summer Boost program will serve approximately 30% of our overall student population and is an opportunity for our students to continue to grow over the summer. 

Responsibilities

Summer Boost teachers are required to attend training from 10am-3pm ET on Monday, July 1 - Wednesday, July 3 and work the entirety of the summer session from July 8 - August 7th. Daily work hours are 8:15 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

  • Provide push-in and pull-out intervention to support the Social-Emotional well-being of all learners
  • Collaborate with other Summer Boost teachers to plan Social-Emotional supports
  • Plan and deliver lessons to support students’ social-emotional learning 
  • Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Build strong relationships with students and create an inclusive environment that fosters self-advocacy for all students
  • Assess and accelerate student growth through data-driven practices
  • Analyze and study student work to identify trends and misconceptions
  • Collaborate with other teachers and school’s Program Director to learn with and from each other, to set high expectations across the school, and align instruction to the needs of students
  • Attend periodically group planning and professional development sessions
  • Support safe and welcoming arrival and dismissal of students
  • Connect with families to establish a partnership for student success throughout the summer session
  • Showcase and celebrate student achievement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required
  • A valid New York State Certification in teaching, counseling, or social work
  • 2 years of school-based experience
  • Proven track record of planning and implementing effective lessons 
  • Demonstrated content knowledge and success in tailoring instruction to the needs of diverse learners
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals
  • Experience working with educational technology
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus 

Compensation

The salary for this position is $11,000. This part-time role is not benefits-eligible; however, current S2 staff members’ benefits will continue through the summer as usual.
