Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Coach will carry out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the head coach and school administration. They will instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy, and physical training necessary to realize a degree of individual and team success.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assumes the responsibility of the Head Coach in his/her absence.
  • Remains current on knowledge and implements current policies or procedures including athletic policies set forth by the Board of Education.
  • Remains current on knowledge of local, state, and conference regulations and enforces those regulations.
  • Supervises athletes and team assigned, which includes before and after practice.
  • Assumes supervisory control over all athletes in the program when such control is needed.
  • Instructs team members concerning changes in rules.
  • Teaches fundamentals of the sport as outlined by the head coach.
  • Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program and school community.
  • Assists the Head Coach in scheduling, providing transportation and requirements for tournament and special sport events.
  • Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times.
  • Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
  • Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment.
  • Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant.
  • Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
  • Maintains a record of team statistics and requirements for lettering.
  • Recommends to the head coach budgetary items for next year in his area of the program.
  • Arranges for issuing, storing, and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory and current records.
  • Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
  • Follows district, school, and Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) rules and regulations.
  • Instructs and advises students on WIAA rules and regulations.
  • Promotes the weight training program Spartan Strength & Fitness both in and out of season.
  • Takes all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Accompanies and supervises student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips.
  • Applies and enforces student discipline during athletic contests and encourages sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
  • Establishes and maintains open, professional, and respectful communications with students, parents, teachers, athletic director, and youth feeder coaches.
  • Follows injury procedures established by the Superior Athletic Department.
  • Performs all other duties assigned by Administration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Capable on a continuous basis of standing, sitting, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, twisting; repetitive movement of both hands and feet; seeing with both near and far visual acuity and to hear.

2. Capable on a frequent basis of walking and moving, climbing stairs, lifting from floor to waist (up to #50), waist to shoulders (up to #25).

3. Capable on an occasional basis of pushing; pulling; lifting from shoulders to overhead (up to #10).

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Teaching License from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) or completion of the WIAA coaching fundamentals course within the first (1st) year of coaching.
  • Valid CPR/AED/First Aid Certification within the first (1st) year of coaching.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of WIAA/Conference rules.
  • Previous coaching experience.
