The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Family and Consumer Science Education Teacher at Longfellow Middle School beginning in the 2024-2025 school year.
Wisconsin certification 1210 required. Consideration may also be given to candidates who hold a 1211, 1213, 1215, or 1910 license, or an experience based vocational license.
Prefer applicants possessing the following qualifications:

• Knowledge of the Family Focus approach to teaching Family and Consumer Sciences Education.
• Familiarity with the Wisconsin State Teaching and Family and Consumer Sciences Education Standards.
• Knowledge of and ability to teach students with special needs.
• Knowledge of career pathways.
• Familiarity with FCS Credentialing Opportunities within the 9-12 setting.
• Ability to teach in a hands-on, project-based environment.
• Familiarity with and commitment to use proper safety procedures that follow OSHA and other state requirements and certifications needed for family/consumer and health science environments.
• Effective classroom management practices to facilitate learning in a lab environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other Family and Consumer Science/Health Science teachers at both the district and school levels.
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting a strong/rigorous curriculum focused on preparing students for relevant technical careers in today's ever-changing workplace.
• Demonstrated desire and skills required to build and maintain business & industry connections to Family & Consumer Sciences.
• Ability to effectively collaborate and plan with other teachers within the CTE and across core content areas.

Position responsibilities:

• Monitor student performance and behavior and takes appropriate action.
• Participate in parent/teacher conferences. Interpret student strengths, weaknesses and/or problems a student may be experiencing in the classroom.
• Collaborate with other staff in evaluating individual student problems, approaches to instructional units, and new teaching technologies or procedures available.
• Collaborate with staff to develop instructional units in career education and disciplinary literacy.
• Advise a Career & Technical Student Organization (FCCLA).
• Expectation of continued professional growth and cross curricular support and integration.
• Collaborate with core content teachers to integrate FCS and core content skills across curriculum.
• Maintain and provide accurate records as required.
• Participate in curriculum writing and review, staff development and/or training, and keep abreast of information in the field of education.
• Complete additional tasks as required by administrators.
• Advise FCCLA Chapter.
