POSITION:
Title IX Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools

START DATE: Upon Board Approval


Job Goal:
To oversee compliance Title IX efforts and investigate any complaints of sex discrimination.


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a legal, educational, administrative or closely related field
  • Preferred Master’s Degree; and professional certifications
  • Experienced in an educational setting and expert knowledge of Title IX
  • Demonstrated Management and Leadership Abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding about state laws, regulations and policies on all equity issues, including bullying and harassment and child abuse laws.
  • Extensive knowledgeable of federal and state laws (e.g. ADA, Section 504, IDEA) prohibiting discrimination against all protected classes (including race, religion and sexual orientation)


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uses computer applications such as spreadsheet, word processing, email, calendar and database software in the performance of the job
  • Promote the school district's policy of nondiscrimination. Prominently included in each student handbook, bulletin, catalog, booklet, announcement, brochure, student application form or other publication distributed to students, potential students, parents, and any other persons benefiting from the school district's activities and programs.
  • Ensure contact information( office address , telephone number, fax number, email address ) are accessible to the district.
  • Monitor the overall execution of Title IX for the school district and coordinating the institution's compliance with Title IX in all areas covered by the implementing regulations.
  • Prevention of sexual harassment and discrimination.
  • Monitor Admissions, Recruitment, Education Programs and Activities
  • Performs whatever other duties as may be assigned from time to time
  • Develop a working knowledge of the federal Title IX (of the Education Amendments of 1972) law and its implementation regulations.
  • Maintain updated Title IX materials and understand the requirements and the intent of the law.
  • Keep informed of current research and legal and judicial decisions related to Title IX and gender equity.
  • Be sure female and male students participating in work-based learning programs are guaranteed equal treatment by their employers.
  • Coordinate with staff and document an internal self-evaluation of practices and policies with respect to treatment of female and male students
  • Investigate prior evaluation's remedies for eliminating segregation and discrimination were carried out.
  • Provide program development, including in-service training, to eliminate sex discrimination in the district. Conducting a school-wide in-service or assembly on sexual harassment.
  • Attend state and national conferences specifically for Title IX coordinators and/or on gender equity issues generally, and report the information with local administrators, staff and faculty.
  • Provide continuous updated resources on Title IX and gender equity to local school districts


Working Conditions and Physical Environment

  • Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; hear and understand speech at normal levels; physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to angry students/parents and neighborhoods considered to have high levels of violence potential
