Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The Richmond office of Schnabel is seeking a Senior Staff Environmental Geologist/Engineer to join our team of multi-disciplinary professionals. We are looking for a motivated candidate able to learn quickly, with a desire to develop both field and analytical skills, and a desire to be part of a strong team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Environmental site characterization, geologic interpretation, and environmental assessment;
  • Drilling oversight with direct push, sonic, hollow stem auger, air rotary, and vibracore technologies including logging soil borings using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS);
  • Perform various hydrogeological and environmental field testing of site soils and aquifers;
  • Perform surface water, groundwater, soil, and sediment sampling;
  • Stormwater inspections, sample collection, BMP installation, and preparation of discharge monitoring reports;
  • Record field notes and document detailed site information;
  • Summarize and interpret environmental and geologic data;
  • Use field equipment such as peristaltic pumps, bladder pumps, submersible pumps, water quality meters, handheld GPS, and air monitoring equipment;
  • Manage subcontractors including laboratories, drillers and utility locators;
  • Review and interpret laboratory analytical results;
  • Technical writing and preparation of technical regulatory reports; and
  • Task and project management

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited program in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Geology or Geological Engineering
  • 4-6 years of professional experience
  • Experience with soil borings, standard penetration testing and monitoring well installations
  • Surface water, groundwater, and sediment sampling experience
  • Experience with site remedial activities
  • Experience with task management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Willingness and ability to perform outdoor field work, including over water, and travel

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Sediment characterization
  • Experience with groundwater modeling
  • Professional licensure commensurate with experience and degree (e.g. GIT, EIT, PG or PE)

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment screening
