Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. Schnabel is seeking a Project Accountant to join our growing corporate team in Glen Allen, VA. The Project Accountant will work with projects managers to review project financial data. The Project Accountant will recommend and implement process improvements across the project accounting function. This position will report to the Controller and will be expected to be a member of the finance leadership team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the project manager to develop a detailed, cost-effective budget.
  • Monitor project progress including project budgets, and revenue recognition.
  • Analyze and review project transactions.
  • Report any financial risks and discrepancies to management for review.
  • Report and manage key performance indicators.
  • Maintains and prepares SOPs of current processes,
  • Participate in audit related activities and prepare audit responses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 years of project accounting experience. 
  • Possess a strong understanding of project workflow from initial project setup to project completion within a professional services environment.
  • Knowledge of contract types and related accounting requirements in a government contracting environment.
  • Ability to prepare project budges, financial forecasts, and project reports.
  • Understanding of financial statement implications of cost to complete, project budgets, and revenue.
  • Knowledge of project invoicing and billing.
  • Experience working within an ERP application.
  • Thorough attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with maintaining professional and collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency of Microsoft Excel.
  • Intermediate proficiency with other Microsoft Office products.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or high school diploma plus a minimum of 12 years' experience.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in any Deltek ERP system (Costpoint, Vision, Vantagepoint).
  • Basic understating of revenue recognition.
  • Track record of delivering excellent customer service within an accounting function.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Travel as needed.
