Controller / Bookkeeper

Position Summary: The Controller / Bookkeeper position is a full-time position reporting to the President of Schmitt Marine Steering Wheels, Inc. The Controller is responsible for the financial functions and reporting of the Company.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, reconcile, and audit all internal financial transactions of the Company.
  • Provide financial reporting on a GAAP basis.
  • Coordinate activities with an independent public accounting firm
  • Supply financial information the Companies’ bank annually and on an as requested basis.
  • Prepare the necessary financial data presented in the format required by the Companies’ accounting firm for year-end review, tax returns, and Compiled Financial Statement.
  • Manage the cash flow of the Company.
  • Maintain the accounts payable of the Company in coordination with the A/P Mgr. and Op. Mgr. (Purchasing Manager).
  • Present financial results, budget, forecast and actual results on a periodic basis to the management.
  • Report as needed financial data to various governmental agencies.
  • Coordinate renewals of insurances of Companies Business (including medical, workers compensation, and shipping).
  • Assist with Human Resources activities alongside company President.

Duties:

  • Monthly company financial performance reporting.
  • Ad Hoc analysis as the needs of the business require.
  • Monthly financial close of the Company including bank account reconciliation, all general ledger account reconciliations, financial statement presentations and analysis to management.
  • Weekly cash forecast.
  • Accounts payable reconciliation and bill payment.
  • Planning and initiation of foreign exchange forward contracts.
  • Coordination with payroll services provider and bi-weekly transmission of required payroll information.
  • Entry of payroll expenses to the general ledger system.
  • Monthly calculation and payment of employee bonuses.
  • Annual budget process for both companies.
  • Calculation of SEP-IRA contributions and payment of same monthly and at year-end.
  • Yearly data presentation and negotiation of all company insurances, including medical insurance enrollment of each employee participant.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting.
  • 3 years business or accounting experience.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience in accounting and operations software required. QuickBooks or SAP Business One preferred.

Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
