QUALITY ENGINEER/Technician IN MUSKEGON, MI

We are currently managed by the fourth generation of the founding family with sales and manufacturing activities at 42 sites in various European countries, North and South America and in Asia. Job Function:
The Quality Engineer/Technician reports directly to the Technical Manager. The Quality Engineer/Technician is responsible for programming, operating, and training team members on quality related measurement equipment. The Quality Engineer/Technician will support the quality team and production to assure all current and future products manufactured by the organization meet customer specifications and achieve superior quality and reliability levels.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform gauge R&R and programming on various measurement equipment, including CMM, Keyence, and load/torque testers, ensuring accurate measurements and data collection.
  • Develop programming and validation studies for both new and existing products, optimizing measurement processes for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Design and implement gages and fixtures as needed for measurement equipment, facilitating precise and repeatable measurements across all products.
  • Participate in process development for new products and contribute to the development of PFMEA, ensuring potential failure modes are identified and addressed.
  • Develop control plans based on print requirements and PFMEA outcomes, establishing clear guidelines for quality control throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Support PPAP documentation for new part launches and engineering changes, collaborating with customers to ensure compliance and quality standards are met.
  • Train production personnel on work instructions and provide ongoing support to ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures.
  • Take proactive measures to address quality issues, initiating root cause analysis using tools like 5Y, 8D, and fishbone diagrams to identify and resolve underlying problems.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal teams globally, facilitating communication and collaboration on process and quality-related matters.
  • Maintain effective working relationships and collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams and departments to drive continuous improvement in quality and processes.
  • Works according to Scherdel's quality and environmental system requirements, and customer quality requirements.
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering - Required
  • Statistical analysis, precision measurement and process capability studies will become an intricate part of the Quality assurance program; therefore, formal education in courses related to these areas such as mathematics, statistics, Six Sigma, and industrial processes are essential for this position
Desired skills:
  • Advanced GD&T knowledge. Real-world knowledge and experience for programming measurement equipment such as CMM and vision systems. Data analysis tools such as Minitab. DOE knowledge, preferred.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the customer base and internally, both verbal and written. Computer skills in windows environment required.
