General Summary:

Our Project Management business focuses on the design, build, and supply of both dry and liquid material-handling systems. Project sizes average $3M, with larger projects up to $100M. The buyout content is historically half of the overall project value. The Group maintains an active portfolio of approximately one hundred domestic and international projects.

As a Commodity Projects Buyer, you’ll work closely with the Projects team et al. to administer and oversee project-related purchasing and expediting functions by ensuring the procurement process, and project requirements are implemented, monitored, and maintained. This role will focus on buying and delivery of commodity materials such as but not limited to pipe, tubing, valves, instrumentation, basic fabrications, gaskets, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Support the project team(s) as the supplier subject matter across a portfolio of projects.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and changing environment – The candidate must be capable of managing multiple open tasks at all times with various people.
  • Responsible for the procure-to-pay process of the scope under its responsibility through various systems,i.e., SAP, requisitions, purchase orders, item masters, vendor data, and scheduling information.
  • Review component specifications with Engineering to determine the appropriate supplier.
  • Review and Evaluate project requirements and be able to determine any risks related to the scope of supply and communicate those constraints to the supplier base and internally when required.
  • Value analyzes component requirements to establish the most cost-effective supplier.
  • Monitors and control ongoing cost, schedule, quality requirements, and information flow during project execution.
  • Acts as liaison between the project team and supplier to resolve all issues related to commodity buyout content of a project.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to achieve the best terms & conditions, delivery, quality, technical specifications, and the best total cost of ownership to match or improve the project’s requirements.
  • Follow-up on order status to ensure on-time supply/order milestones achievements and accurate delivery.
  • Facilitate regular communication with the project(s) team to approve material substitutions and replacement of obsolete requirements or any other possible deviation that may occur.
  • Coordinate delivery of goods with outside logistic partners to ensure timely delivery and/or coordinate with the Projects Logistics & Inspection Specialist
  • Exhibit a strong ability to meet strict deadlines with changing & evolving priorities.
  • Work with accounts payable to approve invoices, solve account payable issues
  • Resolve and negotiate supplier change orders, requests for variance, and schedule impact delays.
  • Ability to Change – The candidate must be able to accept and work through constant changes in purchasing requirements and workload based on the current needs of our customers and project teams.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Interface with project teams to understand the commodity buying needs of individual projects. Couple those needs with the project schedule that get the commodity needs fully defined and ready for order.
  • Consolidate current group commodity needs and seek and obtain material quotations. Look for ways to reduce the cost of goods while maintaining schedule, quality, and function.
  • Based on final approvals from engineering teams, Enter purchasing data into SAP and various business systems: requisitions, purchase orders, item masters, vendor data, and scheduling information.
  • Maintain clear specifications and shipping requirements with vendors. Expedite/control any documentation from vendors to the project teams. Communicate delivery status to project teams.
  • Maintain general terms and conditions with vendors that match project group needs. Develop and maintain a viable and competitive supplier base for our commodity business.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Business, Business Administration, Economics, similar or equivalent experience
  • General understanding of the typical purchasing process: Quotation-Vendor Selection-Purchase order submission-order acknowledgment-shipment logistics – material receipt and payment
  • Professional experience administering commodity purchasing functions
  • Experience with SAP is highly desired but not required
  • Solid working knowledge and use of Microsoft Office with strong spreadsheet (Excel) skills
