Schaumburg Community Consolidated School District 54 is Hiring a Physical Education Teacher Near Schaumburg, IL

10-month, full-time position. For the 2024-2025 school year

Job Description: To develop a life long appreciation and understanding of the need for maintaining physical fitness through exercise.

Develop strength, agility, skill, poise and coordination through physical activity. 

Develop good social, emotional and psychological adjustment, and to promote fair play and good sportsmanship.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, rhythms, dance, and individual, dual or team sports.
  • Work together with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program.
  • Provide adequate safety instruction and make safety checks of equipment and play areas regularly.
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction to better meet the needs of each pupil, to the extent that is feasible. Demonstrate and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of sports, games, rhythms and dances, and fundamentals of body movement.
  • Maintain control of physical education equipment and supplies in the school.
  • Requisition physical education equipment and supplies.
  • Establish and maintain a standard of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment for learning.
  • Evaluate student achievement in physical education.
  • Attend Physical Education Committee meetings and participate in curriculum development. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop a method of evaluation in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Cooperate with school administration in providing physical education programs and demonstrations.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
