SCAN is Hiring a Controller Near Fort Wayne, IN

The Controller is responsible for directing the accounting functions of the corporation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry. This is a leadership position within our agency. Leaders at SCAN are expected to coach, develop, mentor, guide, support and teach staff to instill SCAN’s core values, beliefs, vision and mission related to quality service to families and children, as well as one another.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct, and evaluate the agency’s fiscal function and performance.
  • Participate in the development of the agency’s plans and programs as a strategic partner.
  • Develop credibility for the finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the COO, CEO, the Board and other executive leaders in performing their responsibilities.
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures of the agency by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation.
  • Establish credibility throughout the agency and with the Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
  • Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline.
  • Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets.
  • Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
  • Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the agency may enter.
  • Evaluate the finance division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as provide individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities (where possible) of individuals.
  • Directs the financial affairs of the Agency within the scope of responsibility outlined by the Chief Operations Officer
  • Supervises, directs and coordinates activities of the Accounting Department using standard accounting principles; acts under the authority and responsibility delegated by the COO.
  • Establishes and maintains financial objectives and practices.
  • Prepares budgets and financial forecasts/projections.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely cash flow projections, monthly financial statements.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and submission of all required financial
  • reports, including management, board, United Way, State and Federal government reports.
  • Prepares and makes recommendations to the Board, based on financial analyses of the Agency operations.
  • Represents agency in financial and tax matters with institutions as requested.
  • Supervises the preparations of the Agency budgetary operating plans, monitors program expenditures against the approved plan.
  • Adheres to and assists in maintaining spirit of Agency’s EEOC philosophy.
  • Ascertains that accounting policies and procedures are compiled with by direct reports.
  • Supervises staff in solving day-to-day problems and procedure questions.
  • Keeps well informed and abreast of new developments in accounting and other financial areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Largely a sedentary role utilizing a computer for more than 4 hours a day.
  • Requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets or bend and stoop as necessary.
  • Requires the ability to occasionally lift office supplies, materials, and equipment up to 25 pounds.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
  • Some flexibility in hours is allowed, the employee must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business, or related field
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • 5 to 10 years of related experience or training
