Description

Status: Temporary Part Time

Pay: $17.25 - $18 per hour

SBCS Before and After School Programs work with local schools to provide safe environments for students to engage in extended learning and recreational activities provided for by the ASES and ASSETS grants. BASP programs include homework support, organized sports, arts activities and a multitude of academic activities in an environment parents can rely on to be safe daily until 6 p.m. These programs are housed in both traditional public and charter schools from 1st- 12th grades

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of SBCS supervisor(s) the School Programs Youth Leader is responsible for the supervision of youth participating in the after school program. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission and style and provided within a team framework. The School Programs Youth Leader is responsible for working in collaboration with the school site personnel in conjunction to meeting SBCS afterschool program goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in the planning, implementation of the program in accordance with the goals and policies of SBCS, State of California Department of Education and Sweetwater Union High School District.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of accurate program records including participant registration and daily attendance in order to achieve and verify program goals are met.
  • Meet program attendance goals for specific programs. Recruit and promote the program to school youth and parents.
  • Prepare daily schedule/curriculum, prepare and develop academic enrichment, snack distribution, recreation and/or leadership development as needed.
  • Plan and coordinate the provision of age appropriate activities and events for participants.
  • Oversee participants, demonstrating positive role modeling, guidance, and ensuring safety at all times.
  • Develop positive relationships and collaboration with school personnel.
  • Setting up/taking down classrooms for regular After School Program activities.
  • Provide tutoring assistance and academic enrichment in support of school site goals and standards.
  • Be available evenings or weekends to assist school and/ or SBCS special events.
  • Interact with participants in a positive manner while being consistent, fair and treating everyone in the program with dignity and respect.
  • Fulfill contractual requirements and SBCS policies and procedures at all times.
  • Follow emergency procedures appropriately to ensure the safety of the participants and staff.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times to ensure the SBCS mission statement is upheld.
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must meet and provide documentation of the minimum qualifications for Classroom Assistant
  • AA or BA is highly desirable, passing score on district’s Instructional Assistant Test) acceptable.
  • Minimum of one year working with youth and/or children is highly desirable.
  • Must be highly dependable.
  • Must have a warm and friendly personality and the sensitivity to meet the needs of a diverse population.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation.
  • Must have the ability to lead sports, games and curriculum activities, and monitor behavior.
  • Candidate may be required to have reliable transportation; therefore the candidate must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver’s license and valid auto insurance policy.
  • Ability to provide leadership and stability to the program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  •  Stand: Remaining on one’s feet in an upright position. 
  •  Walking: Moving about on foot. 
  •  Lifting: Raising or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) 25-50 lbs 
  •  Carrying: Transporting an object, usually holding it in the hands or arms, or on the shoulder 
  •  Pushing: Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force. 
  •  Pulling: Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking) 
  •  Climbing: Ascending or descending stairs, using feet and legs or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized 
  •  Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching. 
  •  Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. 
  •  Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand.
  •  Finger Movement: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling 
  •  Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is important for those activities in which workers must impart oral information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
