Overview

Sr. Accountant/Auditor StaffCo of Brooklyn LLC

Location: Hybrid Remote and Onsite as needed up to 10% (Suffolk County NY including Commack, Greenport, Hampton Bays and St. James)

Schedule: Full Time 

Days/Hours: Monday- Friday 8:30am-5pm

Pay: $100,000 to $120,000

Salaries vary depending on experience, education and current market for the position. Human Resources determines the external and internal equitable salary for each employee.

Responsibilities

SUMMARY: The StaffCo of Brooklyn Sr. Accountant/Auditor is responsible to assist the Comptroller with all financial operations for StaffCo of Brooklyn, a Professional Employer Organization (PEO), serving multiple locations of Stony Brook University Hospital.

Job Duties & Essential Functions:

  • Assist Comptroller and Payroll and Human Resource Teams with processing, reconciliation, budgeting and internal audit of payroll, pension and health benefits
  • Kronos payroll and timekeeping entry with wage and tax uploads to ADP
  • General Ledger interface Kronos payroll to Lawson
  • Maintain PTO accruals in Kronos for Central Staff and prepare related monthly liability journal entries
  • Monthly journal entries and bank reconciliation utilizing Lawson software
  • Quarterly tax return review and reconciliation for all StaffCo locations
  • Daily banking duties including bank account schedule maintenance, cash forecasting, wire transfers, positive pay, stop payments, vendor maintenance
  • Monthly financial statement preparation utilizing Lawson software, and ad hoc financials for board meetings, vendor requirements
  • Primary audit contact for audits including the Quarterly tax audit, Annual Financial Statement and Annual Pension Audit
  • Non-discrimination and 5500 data and schedule preparation
  • Fringe benefit calculations and related schedule preparation
  • Tax research and related agency correspondence – amendments, levies, discrepancies
  • Internal Audits of payroll and financial data at the multiple StaffCo locations as required
  • Assist StaffCo locations with accounting and payroll software needs and validation
  • Year-end W2 reconciliation and 1099 preparation for the combined StaffCo location

Other:

  • Assist with special projects such as periodic RFP research and preparation
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Five years Accounting and Internal Audit experience with responsibilities for finance, payroll, auditing, and employee medical and pension benefit plans.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and accounting software (Lawson, Kronos Payroll and ADP Payroll and Benefits).
  • Prior experience with financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and dashboard development
  • Prior experience merging multiple data sources and validating data
  • Strong attention to detail and data integrity.
  • Excellent interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or Masters in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA certification

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with StaffCo site Finance, Payroll and HR teams. The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. This position is largely sedentary and requires the employee to remain stationary for a majority of the day. Any additional physical demands will be outlined and provided by management.

StaffCo is a Professional Employer Organization, commonly referred to as a PEO, duly organized and registered under the New York Professional Employer Organization law. StaffCo and SUNY have entered into a professional employer agreement under which StaffCo is the employer of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, Stony Brook Eastern, Long Island Hospital, Stony Brook Clinical Practice Management Plan employees and responsible for all aspects of employment, including hiring, promotions, disciplines, terminations, the day-to-day direction and supervision of work, as well as labor relations and collective bargaining. StaffCo is fully responsible for providing all payroll and human resources services, including the payment of wages, collecting and reporting payroll taxes and maintaining any and all employee benefits. SUNY Stony Brook Hospital is responsible for the operation of the hospital and provision of health care and is the co-employer as is necessary to conduct its responsibilities and for related licensure, regulatory or statutory requirements and obligations.

Given StaffCo’s employment responsibilities, it is deemed the “employer” for employment and labor law purposes. Thus, the employees are private sector employees of StaffCo, not public sector employees of SUNY. The private sector nature of the StaffCo employees has been approved by NYS Civil Service and upheld in a decision by the US National Labor Relations Board.
