UPPER SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER
Sayre School is seeking a highly motivated and qualified teacher who desires a working environment dedicated to student growth, progress, and achievement. We welcome applications from candidates who embrace the challenges and joys of working with Upper School students, who are excited to teach small classes, who have a passion for their subject, and who want to become an active member of our school community.
The English Department is looking for a teacher who believes that carefully reading a variety of texts and writing about complex ideas enriches our lives, that every student deserves full attention, that teachers should direct but not control the education of students, and that they teach best — at least from time to time — who teach least. Across all grade levels, our department promotes curiosity, responsible reading, awareness of audience, and writing as a continual process of thinking and discovery. We teach toward these abstract goals with deliberate and structured strategies, and we also embody these values in our day-to-day interactions and decisions.
In addition to being thoughtful about our discipline, we are committed to helping each other grow as teachers. We value diverse texts and inclusive pedagogy, inquiry and reflection on educational challenges and developments, and iteration and growth mindset as we each learn and grow as educators in this wild world. We aim to hire an educator who adds to our collective excellence through their individual talents, perspectives, and personality. Please see our Upper School Teacher Profile to learn more about who we are.
