At Savor Seasonings, our Quality Lab Technician ensures product quality and safety by conducting laboratory experiments, managing data, maintaining documentation, and adhering to standard operating procedures. This individual plays a vital role in maintaining high-quality seasoning products. 

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Ensuring that the lab is properly stocked for what is needed daily & retrieve what is needed for the lab from production or order what is needed. 
  • Following the schedule of what seasonings are needed for the day and learning how to create the schedule 
  • Knowledge of raw materials and their usage 
  • Taste basic products and provide feedback 
  • Process orders for shipment 
  • Ability to set up incoming materials for evaluation 
  • Knowledge in the following daily tasks: 
  1. Creating COAs/Sample bags 
  2. Performing the Raw Material approval process 
  3. Calibrating, Sodium testing, Bulk Density, Angle of Repose, Mesh testing 
  4. Prepping samples & Paperwork for external testing 
  • Ability to perform:
  1. Weekly metal detector verification
  2. ATP swabbing/Process/interpret results/record data as needed 
  3. Product approvals 
  • Developing Knowledge in: 
  1. Assisting in weekly expiring inventory & retesting, stability testing 
  2. Assisting daily interpreting of external testing results & recording/finalizing COAs. 
  3. Performing monthly EMP/Allergen swabbing/Cadence/interpreting results/recording results 
  • Working under the instruction of the PCQI
  • Contribute to and be actively involved in decisions concerning key aspects of food safety and quality systems such as: corrective actions, non-conforming products, process deviations, and finished product release, document control and customer complaints. 
  • Personal development and continuing education. 
  • Contribute to and model the company values, vision, and mission. 

Qualifications

  • Knowledge on how to use the needed daily systems 
  • Competent in measurements, weights, laboratory equipment and its calibration 
  • Ability to take direction and work under some supervision 
  • Follow Good Laboratory Practices; keeping a clean and safe work environment 
  • Ability to multi-task 
  • Finishing tasks in a timely manner 
  • Ability to perform sensory evaluations

Required Education and Experience 

  • Associate's degree in science / laboratory major, or associate’s degree with science coursework and at least 2-3 years of quality lab experience required 
  • Certified in HACCP or equivalent preferred 
  • Food Safety knowledge or experience preferred
